1 - 9 . (canceled) 10 . A method for treating an inflammatory condition, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a polypeptide of 6 to 20 amino acids comprising at least 6 consecutive amino acids selected from the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO 1 or a function-conservative variant thereof. 11 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein said polypeptide comprises a 6 consecutive amino acid sequence from the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO 4 or a function-conservative variant thereof. 12 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein said polypeptide comprises a 6 consecutive amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 6, SEQ ID NO 7 or SEQ ID NO 8. 13 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein said polypeptide comprises an amino acid sequence as set forth in SEQ ID NO 9. 14 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein said polypeptide comprises an amino acid sequence as set forth in SEQ ID NO: 4. 15 . A method according to claim 10 , wherein the inflammatory condition is selected from the group consisting of allergies, asthma, cancer, inflammatory arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), pancreatitis, pneumonia, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), sepsis, severe sepsis, septic shock, endotoxemia, ischemia and reperfusion syndromes and hemorrhagic shock. 16 . A method according to claim 10 , wherein the inflammatory condition is selected from the group consisting of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), sepsis, severe sepsis, septic shock and endotoxemia 17 . A method according to claim 10 , wherein the inflammatory condition is sepsis.
