What is claimed is: 1 . A cosmetic composition comprising: at least about 12% thickening polymer having hydrophobic and hydrophilic portions; a non-ionic surfactant; a neutralising agent; a non-ionic kosmotrope; water; and wherein the ratio of thickening polymer having hydrophobic and hydrophilic portions to neutralising agent is from about 10:1 to about 60:1. 2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the thickening polymer is an associative thickening polymer. 3 . The composition of claim 2 , wherein the thickening polymer is acrylate-based. 4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises from about 15 to about 25% thickening polymer; 5 . The composition of claim 4 , wherein the composition also comprises from about 5% to about 20% non-ionic kosmotrope. 6 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the thickening polymer is selected from the group consisting of Acrylates/Ceteth-20 Itaconate Copolymers, Polyurethane-39 polymers, and mixtures thereof. 7 . The composition of claim 6 , wherein the thickening polymer is an Acrylates/Ceteth-20 Itaconate Copolymer. 8 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the non-ionic kosmotrope is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene glycol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, propane-1,2,3-triol, and mixtures thereof 9 . The composition of claim 8 , wherein the non-ionic kosmotrope is propane-1,2,3-triol. 10 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is substantially free of any further thickening polymer, or is substantially free of any film-forming polymer or hair fixing polymer except for the thickening polymer having hydrophobic and hydrophilic portions. 11 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the neutralising agent is selected from the group consisting of: aminomethyl propanol, ethanolamine, and mixtures thereof. 12 . The composition of claim 11 , wherein the neutralising agent is aminomethyl propanol. 13 . The composition of claim 12 , wherein the composition comprises from about 0.01% to about 2% neutralising agent. 14 . The composition of claim 13 , wherein the composition comprises from about 0.2% to about 0.8% neutralising agent. 15 . The composition of claim 14 , wherein the ratio of thickening polymer having hydrophobic and hydrophilic portions to neutralising agent is from about 20:1 to about 50:1. 16 . The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises at least one preservative; and wherein the preservative is selected from the group consisting of benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, and mixtures thereof. 17 . The composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition consists of: from about 15 to about 25% thickening polymer having hydrophobic and hydrophilic portions; a non-ionic surfactant; a neutralising agent; a non-ionic kosmotrope; water. and wherein the ratio of thickening polymer having hydrophobic and hydrophilic portions to neutralising agent is from about 10:1 to about 60:1. 18 . A hair colorant formulation obtained from mixing: the composition according to claim 1 ; a hair dye. 19 . A method of colouring hair comprising applying the hair colorant formulation according to claim 18 to human hair. 20 . The method of claim 19 comprising sculpting hair.
Compositions of homopolymers or copolymers of compounds having one or more unsaturated aliphatic radicals, each having only one carbon-to-carbon double bond, and at least one being terminated by a carboxyl radical, and containing at least one other carboxyl radical in the molecule, or of salts, anhydrides, esters, amides, imides or nitriles thereof; Compositions of derivatives of such polymers, e.g. poly (methyl vinyl ether-co-maleic anhydride) · CPC title
