Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An oral care implement has a head portion with tooth cleaning elements on a front surface thereof and a reservoir containing a fluid. A delivery member extends through at least a portion of the oral care implement to deliver the fluid from the reservoir to an applicator that may be positioned on the rear surface of the head. In one aspect, the applicator and the delivery member may be separate components that are fluidly coupled to one another. The applicator and the delivery member may both be formed of a capillary material.

What is claimed is: 1 . An oral care implement comprising: a head and a handle, the head having a front surface and an opposing rear surface, at least one tooth cleaning element extending from the front surface; a reservoir storing a fluid; an applicator positioned on the rear surface of the head; a delivery member extending from the reservoir to the applicator; and wherein the applicator and the delivery member comprise a capillary material. 2 . The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the delivery member is fluidly coupled to the reservoir and to the applicator. 3 . The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the applicator and the delivery member are separate elements that are fluidly coupled together to facilitate flowing the fluid from the reservoir to the applicator through the delivery member via capillary action. 4 . The oral care implement of claim 3 wherein the applicator and the delivery member are in direct surface contact with one another. 5 . The oral care implement of claim 4 wherein the applicator has a proximal end and a distal end and the delivery member has a proximal end and a distal end, and wherein the proximal end of the delivery member is directly coupled to the reservoir and the distal end of the delivery member is in direct surface contact with the proximal end of the applicator. 6 . The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the delivery member is located within a passageway that extends through the handle from the reservoir to the applicator. 7 . The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein an outer surface of the applicator is flush with the rear surface of the head. 8 . The oral care implement of claim 7 wherein a portion of the applicator is recessed relative to the rear surface of the head. 9 . The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein a perimeter of the rear surface of the head surrounds the applicator. 10 . The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the capillary material of the applicator and the delivery member comprises a porous or fibrous material. 11 . The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the delivery member delivers the fluid from the reservoir to the applicator solely by capillary action. 12 . The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the applicator is exposed through an opening formed into the rear surface of the head. 13 . The oral care implement of claim 1 wherein the fluid is an oral care agent. 14 . The oral care implement of claim 13 wherein the oral care agent is selected from the group consisting of antibacterial agents, whitening agents, anti-sensitivity agents, anti-inflammatory agents, anti-attachment agents, plaque indicator agents, flavorants, sensates, and colorants.
