Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A medical manipulation assembly comprises a sheath steerable in response to rotational movement of a sheath steering mechanism. The assembly also comprises a catheter extendable through the sheath. The catheter is steerable in response to rotational movement of a catheter steering mechanism. The sheath and catheter are independently steerable. The assembly also comprises a set of control wires. At least one of the sheath or the catheter includes a plurality of lumens with at least two of the plurality of lumens each sized for passage of one of the control wires of the set of control wires. The steerable catheter includes a working channel sized to receive a visualization instrument therethrough.

1 - 20 . (canceled) 21 . A medical manipulation assembly comprising: a sheath steerable is response to rotational movement of a sheath steering mechanism; a catheter extendable through the sheath, the catheter steerable in response to rotational movement of a catheter steering mechanism, wherein the sheath and catheter are independently steerable; and a set of control wires, wherein at least one of the sheath or the catheter includes a plurality of lumens with at least two of the plurality of lumens each sized for passage of one of the control wires of the set of control wires and wherein the steerable catheter includes a working channel sized to receive a visualization instrument therethrough. 22 . The medical manipulation assembly of claim 21 further comprising the visualization instrument, wherein the visualization instrument is extendable distally beyond the sheath and catheter. 23 . The medical manipulation assembly of claim 22 wherein the visualization instrument includes a camera. 24 . The medical manipulation assembly of claim 22 wherein the visualization instrument includes am optical fiber. 25 . The medical manipulation assembly of claim 21 wherein at least one of the sheath or the catheter is steerable by computer control. 26 . The medical manipulation assembly of claim 21 wherein at least one of the sheath or the catheter is formed from an extrusion that includes the plurality of lumens, 27 . The medical manipulation assembly of claim 21 wherein at least one of the plurality of lumens is configured for passage of a helically shaped member. 28 . The medical manipulation assembly of claim 27 wherein at least two of the plurality of lumens is configured for passage of a helically shaped member. 29 . The medical manipulation assembly of claim 21 wherein a distal end of the sheath has a distal curve in a first direction and wherein a distal end of the catheter has a distal curve in a second direction, different from the first direction, and an intermediate curve in the first direction, the intermediate curve extending proximally of the distal curve of the catheter. 30 . A method performed by a computing system, the method comprising: moving a sheath steering mechanism to bend a sheath portion of a medical assembly, the sheath portion including a working channel; moving a catheter steering mechanism, independently of the movement of the sheath steering mechanism, to bend a catheter portion of a medical assembly, the catheter portion including an extruded body including a plurality of lumens and the catheter portion extending through the working channel; and responsive to the movement of the catheter steering mechanism, manipulating one or more pullwires extending within a set of the plurality of lumens to bend the catheter portion of the medical assembly, wherein the catheter portion includes a channel configured to receive a. visualization instrument therethrough. 31 . The method of claim 30 further comprising responsive to the movement of the sheath steering mechanism, manipulating, one or more pullwires to bend the sheath portion of the medical assembly. 32 . The method of claim 30 further comprising extending the visualization instrument distally beyond the sheath and catheter portions of the medical assembly. 33 . The method of claim 30 wherein the visualization instrument includes a camera. 34 . The method of claim 30 wherein the visualization instrument includes an optical fiber. 35 . The method of claim 30 further comprising manipulating a helically shaped member within at least one of the plurality lumen. 36 . The method of claim 30 further comprising manipulating a distal end of the sheath portion into a distal curve in a first direction manipulating a distal end of the catheter portion into a distal curve in a second direction, different from the first direction, and passively bending an intermediate section of the catheter portion in the first direction, the intermediate section extending proximally of the distal curve of the catheter portion. 37 . The method of claim 30 further comprising receiving an ablation instrument through the catheter portion of the medical assembly. 38 . The method of claim 30 further comprising receiving a lighting instrument through the catheter portion of the medical assembly. 39 . The method of claim 30 further comprising releasing a fluid through the catheter portion of the medical assembly.
