Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A lighting device defining an interior storage space accessible by removing a lid from the main body portion of the lighting device. The main body portion is embodied as a first light emitting component and the lid is embodied as a second light emitting component. Each of the first light emitting component and the second light emitting component are configured for emitting a light output. The lighting device additionally includes a tray that may fit within the interior storage space of the lighting device.

That which is claimed: 1 . A lighting device comprising: a housing having an open end and one or more sidewalls surrounding the open end, wherein at least a portion of the one or more sidewalls defines a light-transmissive portion; a base secured to the housing, wherein the light-transmissive portion extends upward from the base; and one or more first light sources disposed within the base and on one or more substrates to emit light through the light-transmissive portion, wherein an entirety of the one or more substrates surrounds a perimeter of an inner sidewall of the one or more sidewalls. 2 . The lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the light-transmissive portion and the base defines a sealed region, such that the one or more first light sources are housed within the sealed region. 3 . The lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the light-transmissive portion is defined within a portion of the one or more sidewalls as including: (i) a light-transmissive side defining an outer sidewall of the one or more sidewalls and (ii) an opposite, opaque side defining the inner sidewall of the one or more sidewalls. 4 . The lighting device of claim 3 , wherein the one or more first light sources comprises a plurality of light sources spaced around the perimeter of the inner sidewall. 5 . The lighting device of claim 3 , further comprising a lid configured for being releasably secured to the housing. 6 . The lighting device of claim 5 , wherein the lid comprises: a body defining a first end and a second end, wherein the body is configured to fit within the open end of the housing to position the first end of the body within the housing and wherein at least a portion of the first end of the body defines a light emitting portion positioned within the housing when the body is inserted within the open end; and one or more second light sources disposed within the body to emit light through the light emitting portion. 7 . The lighting device of claim 5 , wherein the inner sidewall defines a first edge surrounding the inner sidewall, wherein the outer sidewall defines a second edge surrounding the outer sidewall, and wherein the first edge is lower than the second edge and is configured to support the lid when the lid is inserted within the open end. 8 . The lighting device of claim 3 , wherein the housing has a hollow interior surrounded by the inner sidewall. 9 . The lighting device of claim 8 , wherein the hollow interior defines one or more storage compartments. 10 . The lighting device of claim 8 , wherein the hollow interior comprises one or more support members configured to support a tray above an inner bottom surface of the hollow interior, wherein the one or more support members extend upward from the inner bottom surface. 11 . The lighting device of claim 8 , wherein the inner sidewall comprises a removable liner. 12 . The lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the light-transmissive portion extends up to and includes at least a portion of a top surface of the housing. 13 . The lighting device of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of power sources, wherein at least one power source of the plurality of power sources is disposed within the base. 14 . The lighting device of claim 13 , further comprising a controller configured for selecting a power source of the plurality of power sources when the lighting device is powered on. 15 . The lighting device of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of power sources comprises one or more onboard batteries. 16 . The lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the housing further comprises a user interface configured to accept user input to facilitate toggling between a plurality of light output modes of the lighting device. 17 . The lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more first light sources comprises one or more light emitting diodes. 18 . The lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the housing defines a cube shape. 19 . The lighting device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more substrates are aligned linearly with the one or more sidewalls. 20 . The lighting device of claim 1 , further comprising a handle releasably secured to the housing.
