What is claimed is: 1 . A method of treating a CD30 positive melanoma, comprising administering an effective regimen of brentuximab vedotin to a patient having the melanoma, wherein at least 10% of the malignant or atypical cells in a sample of the melanoma have been identified as expressing CD30. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least 50% of the malignant or atypical cells in the sample have been identified as expressing CD30. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein CD30 expression is detected in the cell membrane and/or Golgi of the malignant or atypical cells. 4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein CD30 expression is detected after fixing the malignant or atypical cells with formalin and embedding in paraffin.
