Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In relation to an in-loop filtering procedure described in the present document, a virtual boundary is defined so as to further increase the subjective/objective visual quality of a restored picture and the in-loop filtering procedure can be applied across the virtual boundary. The virtual boundary can include, for example, a discontinuous edge such as a 360-degree image, a VR image, or picture in picture (PIP). For example, the virtual boundary can be at a predetermined appointed position, and the existence and/or the position thereof can be signaled. Embodiments of the present document present a method for efficiently signaling virtual boundary-related information.

What is claimed is: 1 . A decoding apparatus for image decoding, the decoding apparatus comprising: a memory; and at least one processor connected to the memory, the at least one processor configured to: receive image information including residual information and virtual boundaries-related information through a bitstream; derive reconstructed samples of a current picture, based on the residual information; perform an in-loop filtering process of the reconstructed samples to generate modified reconstructed samples; and determine whether the in-loop filtering process is enabled across virtual boundaries, based on a virtual boundaries enabled flag, wherein based on the determination whether the in-loop filtering process is enabled across the virtual boundaries, the virtual boundaries-related information is included in the image information, wherein the virtual boundaries-related information includes information on a number of the virtual boundaries and information on positions of the virtual boundaries, wherein the image information includes a sequence parameter set (SPS), and picture header information referring to the SPS, wherein the SPS includes the virtual boundaries enabled flag and an SPS virtual boundaries present flag, wherein whether signaling of the virtual boundaries-related information is present in the SPS or the picture header information is determined based on a value of the SPS virtual boundaries present flag, wherein based on the value of the SPS virtual boundaries present flag being 1, the virtual boundaries-related information is included in the SPS, and wherein based on the value of the SPS virtual boundaries present flag being 0, the virtual boundaries-related information is included in the picture header information. 2 . An encoding apparatus for image encoding, the encoding apparatus comprising: a memory; and at least one processor connected to the memory, the at least one processor configured to: derive residual samples for a current block; generate residual information, based on the residual samples for the current block; determine whether an in-loop filtering process is enabled across virtual boundaries; generate virtual boundaries-related information, based on the determination; and encode image information including the residual information and the virtual boundaries-related information, wherein based on the determination whether the in-loop filtering process is enabled across the virtual boundaries, the image information includes the virtual boundaries-related information, wherein the virtual boundaries-related information includes information on a number of the virtual boundaries and information on positions of the virtual boundaries, wherein the image information includes a sequence parameter set (SPS), and picture header information referring to the SPS, wherein the SPS includes a virtual boundaries enabled flag and an SPS virtual boundaries present flag, wherein the virtual boundaries enabled flag is related to whether the in-loop filtering process is enabled across the virtual boundaries, wherein whether signaling of the virtual boundaries-related information is present in the SPS or the picture header information is related to a value of the SPS virtual boundaries present flag, wherein based on the value of the SPS virtual boundaries present flag being 1, the virtual boundaries-related information is signaled in the SPS, and wherein based on the value of the SPS virtual boundaries present flag being 0, the virtual boundaries-related information is signaled in the picture header information. 3 . An apparatus for transmitting data for an image, the apparatus comprising: at least one processor configured to obtain a bitstream for the image, wherein the bitstream is generated based on deriving residual samples for a current block, generating residual information, based on the residual samples for the current block, determining whether an in-loop filtering process is enabled across virtual boundaries, generating virtual boundaries-related information, based on the determination, and encoding image information including the residual information and the virtual boundaries-related information; and a transmitter configured to transmit the data comprising the bitstream, wherein based on the determination whether the in-loop filtering process is enabled across the virtual boundaries, the image information includes the virtual boundaries-related information, wherein the virtual boundaries-related information includes information on a number of the virtual boundaries and information on positions of the virtual boundaries, wherein the image information includes a sequence parameter set (SPS), and picture header information referring to the SPS, wherein the SPS includes a virtual boundaries enabled flag and an SPS virtual boundaries present flag, wherein the virtual boundaries enabled flag is related to whether the in-loop filtering process is enabled across the virtual boundaries, wherein whether signaling of the virtual boundaries-related information is present in the SPS or the picture header information is related to a value of the SPS virtual boundaries present flag, wherein based on the value of the SPS virtual boundaries present flag being 1, the virtual boundaries-related information is signaled in the SPS, and wherein based on the value of the SPS virtual boundaries present flag being 0, the virtual boundaries-related information is signaled in the picture header information.
