Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An iron-type golf club head incudes a body, a recessed channel, and a weight assembly. The body includes a striking face, a sole, and a back portion positioned between the sole and the striking face. The striking face includes an upper topline edge and a lower leading edge opposite to the upper topline edge. The recessed channel is formed in the back portion and includes a plurality of dividers. The weight assembly includes a weight at least partially disposed within the recessed channel and configured to engage one of the plurality of dividers in a locked configuration.

What is claimed is: 1 . An iron-type golf club head comprising: a body comprising: a striking face having a lower leading edge and a plurality of grooves; a sole extending from said lower leading edge; and a back portion positioned rearward of said striking face and coupled to a rearward portion of said sole; a recessed channel formed in said back portion; and a weight assembly comprising: a weight at least partially disposed within said recessed channel and configured to move therein, a cover adapted to releasably secure said weight within said recessed channel, and a fastener coupling said cover to said body, wherein said cover is positionable in at least an unlocked configuration whereby said cover is raised at least partially from said recessed channel and said weight is selectively movable within said recessed channel, and a locked configuration whereby said cover is disposed over said recessed channel and said weight is secured within said recessed channel, and wherein said recessed channel comprises a plurality of dividers. 2 . The iron-type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of dividers form a divider angle with respect to a plane orthogonal to one of said plurality of grooves on said striking face, and wherein said divider angle is between about 0 degrees and 45 degrees. 3 . The iron-type golf club head of claim 2 , wherein said divider angle is between about 20 degrees and 40 degrees. 4 . The iron-type golf club head of claim 3 , wherein said weight is configured to engage at least one of said plurality of dividers in said locked configuration. 5 . The iron-type golf club head of claim 4 , wherein each of said plurality of dividers has a length less than a length of said fastener. 6 . The iron-type golf club head of claim 5 , wherein said weight is engaged with said cover so as to move with said cover between said locked configuration and said unlocked configuration. 7 . The iron-type golf club head of claim 6 , wherein said cover comprises a flange, and wherein said weight has a groove shaped and sized to receive at least a portion of said flange to slidingly engage said weight with said cover. 8 . The iron-type golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said recessed channel has a first sidewall along a toe-to-heel direction and adjacent to said rearward portion of said sole, said first sidewall comprising at least one dimple, and wherein said weight comprises a protruding position indicator configured to selectively engage with said at least one dimple. 9 . The iron-type golf club head of claim 8 , wherein said plurality of dividers includes five dividers. 10 . A golf club head comprising: a body comprising: a striking face having a lower leading edge and a plurality of grooves; a sole extending from said lower leading edge; and a back portion positioned rearward of said striking face and coupled to a rearward portion of said sole; a recessed channel formed in said back portion; an undercut between said recessed channel and said sole; and a weight assembly comprising: a weight at least partially disposed within said recessed channel and configured to move therein, a cover adapted to releasably secure said weight within said recessed channel, and a fastener coupling said cover to said body and selectively movable along a fastener axis forming a fastener angle between about 0 degrees and 90 degrees to a striking face plane, wherein said striking face plane is tangential to an outermost surface of said striking face, and wherein said cover is positionable in at least an unlocked configuration whereby said cover is raised at least partially from said recessed channel and said weight is selectively movable within said recessed channel, and a locked configuration whereby said cover is disposed over said recessed channel and said weight is secured within said recessed channel. 11 . The golf club head of claim 10 , wherein said weight is engaged with said cover so as to move with said cover between said locked configuration and said unlocked configuration. 12 . The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein said cover comprises a flange, and wherein said weight has a groove shaped and sized to receive at least a portion of said flange to slidingly engage said weight with said cover. 13 . The golf club head of claim 10 , wherein said weight remains in said recessed channel when said cover moves between said locked configuration and said unlocked configuration. 14 . The golf club head of claim 10 , wherein said recessed channel has a first sidewall along a toe-to-heel direction and adjacent to said rearward portion of said sole, said first sidewall comprising at least one dimple, and wherein said weight comprises a protruding position indicator configured to selectively engage with said at least one dimple. 15 . The golf club head of claim 10 , wherein said recessed channel comprises a plurality of dividers. 16 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein said weight includes a notch configured to engage at least one of said plurality of dividers in said locked configuration. 17 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein said plurality of dividers form a divider angle with respect to a plane orthogonal to one of said plurality of grooves on said striking face, and wherein said divider angle is between about 0 degrees and 45 degrees. 18 . The golf club head of claim 17 , wherein each of said plurality of dividers has a length less than a length of said fastener.
