What is claimed is: 1 . A positive electrode active material comprising: a composite sulfide which, in an initial state prior to charging and discharging, is represented by a compositional formula Mg x M y S 2 , where Mg is magnesium, M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ta, and W, and 0.8<x<1.3, and 0.8<y<1.3, wherein the composite sulfide in the initial state has a crystal structure belonging to space group Fm-3m. 2 . The positive electrode active material according to claim 1 , wherein M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Cr, and Ni. 3 . A magnesium secondary battery comprising: a positive electrode containing the positive electrode active material according to claim 1 ; an electrolyte; and a negative electrode. 4 . The positive electrode active material according to claim 1 , wherein M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Nb, Mo, Ta, and W. 5 . The positive electrode active material according to claim 1 , wherein M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Nb, Mo, Ta, and W and at least one element selected from the group consisting of V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, and Zr.
