Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An electric powered personal mobility vehicle that includes at least one front wheel and an electric motor that provides rotational force to a wheel of the vehicle. The electric motor is supported by the vehicle and is powered by a rechargeable battery that is also supported by the vehicle. The vehicle can also include swivel caster wheels each configured to rotate about a wheel axis.

What is claimed is: 1 . A motorized tricycle comprising: a frame comprising a front portion and a rear portion, the front portion extending along a longitudinal axis of the motorized tricycle, the rear portion comprising a first leg and a second leg, each of the first and second legs extending outward from the longitudinal axis and terminating in a respective free end; a seat connected with the frame; a front fork assembly connected with the frame, the front fork assembly comprising a first support, a second support, and a front wheel, the front wheel being positioned between the first and second supports; a first rear wheel connected with the first leg and a second rear wheel connected with the second leg, each of the first and second rear wheels configured to rotate; a motor operably configured to drive the front wheel; and a battery configured to provide electric power to the motor; wherein, with the front wheel and first and second rear wheels on a flat horizontal surface, an elevation of a topmost point of the battery is lower than a topmost point of the front wheel. 2 . The motorized tricycle of claim 1 , wherein the battery is rearward of the seat. 3 . The motorized tricycle of claim 1 , wherein the elevation of the topmost point of the battery is above an axis of rotation of the front wheel. 4 . The motorized tricycle of claim 1 , wherein the seat is adjacent to an intersection of the first and second legs. 5 . The motorized tricycle of claim 1 , wherein the seat comprises a base connected with the frame and an upwardly extending back, the base being at a lower elevation than the topmost point of the front wheel. 6 . The motorized tricycle of claim 1 , wherein the first and second rear wheels each comprise a swivelable caster wheel. 7 . The motorized tricycle of claim 1 , wherein the front wheel further comprises a sprocket, and the motor is operably connected with the sprocket by a drive chain. 8 . The motorized tricycle of claim 1 , further comprising a brake assembly that includes a brake lever mounted on a handlebar. 9 . The motorized tricycle of claim 1 , further comprising a first handlebar directly connected to the first support and a second handlebar directly connected to the second support. 10 . A motorized tricycle comprising: a frame comprising a front portion and a rear portion, the front portion extending along a longitudinal axis of the motorized tricycle, the rear portion comprising a first leg and a second leg, each of the first and second legs extending outward from the longitudinal axis; a foot support connected with the frame; a seat connected with the frame; a front fork assembly connected with the frame, the front fork assembly comprising a first support, a second support, and a front wheel, the front wheel being positioned between the first and second supports and configured to rotate around an axis of rotation; a first rear wheel connected with the first leg and a second rear wheel connected with the second leg, each of the first and second rear wheels configured to rotate; a motor operably configured to drive the front wheel; and a battery configured to provide electric power to the motor; wherein, with the front wheel and first and second rear wheels on a flat horizontal surface, an elevation of the foot support is lower than the axis of rotation of the front wheel. 11 . The motorized tricycle of claim 10 , wherein the foot support is fixed relative to the frame. 12 . The motorized tricycle of claim 10 , wherein the front fork assembly is turnable without the foot support being turned. 13 . The motorized tricycle of claim 10 , wherein the first and second rear wheels each comprise a swivelable caster wheel. 14 . The motorized tricycle of claim 10 , wherein the battery is rearward of the seat. 15 . A motorized tricycle comprising: a frame comprising a front portion and a rear portion, the front portion extending along a longitudinal axis of the motorized tricycle, the rear portion comprising a first leg and a second leg, each of the first and second legs extending outward from the longitudinal axis; a front fork assembly connected with the frame, the front fork assembly comprising a first support, a second support, and a front wheel, the front wheel being positioned between the first and second supports and configured to rotate around an axis of rotation; a seat connected with the frame, the seat having a seat width that is measured in a horizontal direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis; a first foot support and a second foot support that are connected with the frame, the first and second foot supports separated by a foot support width that is measured parallel to the seat width and between respective outside lateral edges of the first and second foot supports; a first rear caster wheel connected with and positioned below the first leg and a second rear caster wheel connected with and positioned below the second leg, each of the first and second rear caster wheels configured to swivel and rotate, the first and second rear caster wheels separated by a caster width that is measured parallel to the seat width; a motor configured to drive the front wheel; and a battery configured to provide electric power to the motor; wherein the foot support width is greater than the seat width and less than the caster width. 16 . The motorized tricycle of claim 15 , wherein the front fork assembly is turnable without the first and second foot supports being turned. 17 . The motorized tricycle of claim 15 , wherein the motor comprises a hub motor integrated into a hub of the front wheel and configured to drive the front wheel. 18 . The motorized tricycle of claim 15 , wherein the first and second foot supports are supported by the frame and fixed relative to the frame. 19 . The motorized tricycle of claim 15 , wherein the first and second foot supports are behind the axis of rotation of the front wheel.
