Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A slack adjuster assembly for use with a heavy-duty vehicle drum brake system, the slack adjuster assembly comprising a slack adjuster, a cam tube assembly, and an inboard sealing assembly and an outboard sealing assembly. The outboard sealing assembly includes a tubular sealing ring having an L-shaped projection extending radially-inward. The inboard sealing assembly engages an inboard side of the slack adjuster to form a 360-degree interface, and the outboard sealing assembly engages an outboard side of the slack adjuster to form another 360-degree interface. The L-shaped projection limits grease being purged from the cam tube assembly.

What is claimed is: 1 . A slack adjuster assembly for use with a heavy-duty vehicle drum brake system, the slack adjuster assembly comprising: a slack adjuster; a cam tube assembly; and an inboard sealing assembly and an outboard sealing assembly, said outboard sealing assembly including a tubular sealing ring having an L-shaped projection extending radially-inward; wherein said inboard sealing assembly engages an inboard side of said slack adjuster to completely enclose a central aperture of the slack adjuster and form a 360-degree interface, and said outboard sealing assembly engages an outboard side of said slack adjuster to form a 360-degree interface; and wherein said L-shaped projection limits grease being purged from said cam tube assembly. 2 . A slack adjuster assembly for use with a heavy-duty vehicle drum brake system, the slack adjuster assembly comprising: a slack adjuster, said slack adjuster including a hex extension at least partially projecting longitudinally away from said slack adjuster in a direction and a projection extending longitudinally in said direction away from and adjacent to an opening, said opening receiving a clevis for connecting to a pushrod; wherein the projection physically prevents connection of said clevis to the slack adjuster from the direction and incorrect orientation of the slack adjuster.
