A loading device for loading a roll of wrapping material into a feed device of a baler from which the wrapping material may be dispensed is disclosed. The loading device comprises a lateral channel supported at a first end by a first support and at a second end by a second support, a sliding member having first and second ends mounted for reciprocal movement within the lateral channel, a support member having first and second ends, the first end of the support member mounted to the second end of the sliding member, a winch and cable apparatus, a free end of the cable extending through the support member and a carriage mounted to the free end of the cable. The carriage includes a central element with engagement elements at first and second ends of the central element for releasable engagement with a roll of wrapping material. The winch and cable apparatus enables the carriage to be raised and lowered with respect to the second end of the pivoting member.

The invention claimed is: 1 . A loading device for loading a roll of wrapping material into a feed device of a baler from which the wrapping material is dispensed, the feed device including a reservoir for receiving a roll of wrapping material, the loading device comprising a lateral channel supported at a first end by a first support and at a second end by a second support, a sliding member having first and second ends mounted for reciprocal movement within the lateral channel, a support member having first and second ends, the first end of the support member mounted to the second end of the sliding member, a winch and cable apparatus, a free end of the cable extending through the support member and a carriage mounted to the free end of the cable, the carriage comprising a central element with engagement elements at first and second ends of the central element for releasable engagement with a roll of wrapping material, the winch and cable apparatus enabling the carriage to be raised and lowered with respect to the second end of the sliding member. 2 . The loading device according to claim 1 , wherein the first support and the second support are pivotally mounted for movement about a first horizontal axis between a storage position and a deployed position. 3 . The loading device according to loading device according to claim 1 , wherein the carriage is releasably mounted to the free end of the cable. 4 . A baler comprising a baler frame and the loading device according to any of claim 1 to claim 3 , wherein the first and second supports are mounted to the baler frame.
