Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A stent and method of making incorporating flexible, preferably polymeric, connecting elements into the stent wherein these elements connect element(s) across an intervening space. The polymeric connecting elements are designed to fold within the space between the outer diameter of the stent and the inner diameter of the stent.

We claim: 1 . An endoprosthesis having a length, a radius, and a circumference, the endoprosthesis comprising; a stent formed by a plurality of windings, the plurality of windings having multiple apices; a first film web coupled to two adjacent windings and exhibiting a first stiffness; and a second film web coupled to two adjacent windings and exhibiting a second stiffness greater than the first stiffness, the second film web covering a straight segment of a winding between adjacent apices of the winding. 2 . The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 , wherein the first film web is at least partially oriented in a circumferential direction. 3 . The endoprosthesis according to claim 2 , wherein the first film web is oriented at an angle such that the first film web is partially oriented in a longitudinal direction and partially oriented in a circumferential direction. 4 . The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 , wherein the second film web is at least partially oriented in a longitudinal direction. 5 . The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 , wherein the second film web is at least partially oriented in a circumferential direction. 6 . The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 , wherein the second film web includes a different material from the first film web. 7 . The endoprosthesis according to claim 1 , wherein the first film web and the second film web couples a first apex of a first winding to a first position and a second position of a second winding, respectively. 8 . An endoprosthesis having a length, a radius, and a circumference, the endoprosthesis comprising; a stent having a plurality of stent elements forming a serpentine pattern with multiple apices; and a first film web attaching a first stent element to a second stent element and a second film web, attaching adjacent stent elements, of the plurality of stent elements the first film web including a web reinforcement, the second film web covering a straight segment of the serpentine pattern between adjacent apices of the serpentine pattern. 9 . The endoprosthesis according to claim 8 , wherein the web reinforcement is adhered to the first film web. 10 . The endoprosthesis according to claim 8 , wherein the web reinforcement is a portion of the first film web that has been densified or cured. 11 . The endoprosthesis of claim 8 , wherein the web reinforcement is formed of a different material than the first film web. 12 . The endoprosthesis of claim 8 , wherein the web reinforcement extends along a length of the first film web. 13 . The endoprosthesis of claim 8 , further comprising the second film web including a second web reinforcement, wherein the first film web and the second film web at least partially define an opening between a first apex of the first stent element and a second apex of the second stent element. 14 . The endoprosthesis of claim 13 , further comprising a third film web and a fourth film web, the third film web and the fourth film web at least partially defining a second opening between a third apex of a third stent element and a fourth apex of a fourth stent element, wherein the second opening is free from web reinforcement. 15 . The endoprosthesis of claim 8 , wherein the first film web is oriented at least partially in a circumferential direction. 16 . The endoprosthesis of claim 8 , wherein the first film web extends along a straight portion of each of the first stent element and the second stent element, the straight portion extending between adjacent apices on each of the first stent element and the second stent element. 17 . The endoprosthesis of claim 8 , wherein the first film web and the web reinforcement are formed of the same material. 18 . An endoprosthesis having a length, a radius, and a circumference, the endoprosthesis comprising; a stent formed by a plurality of windings, the plurality of windings having multiple apices and including a first winding adjacent to a second winding; and a film web including a first portion coupled between the first winding and the second winding and a second portion separate and distinct from the first portion and coupled between the first winding and the second winding, the film web covering straight segments of the plurality of windings.
