Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A vehicle sharing system includes a vehicle having interior transceiver modules associated with different passenger seating areas and a vehicle computing system (VCS) including a processor and a memory in communication with the modules and programmed to detect occupancy status of each seating area based on signals from the modules and to communicate the occupancy statuses to a remote server to facilitate scheduling of ride-sharing passengers for a specified seating area of the vehicle. The reserved seating location may be used to align the seating location/door with a passenger during pick-up, adjust vehicle accessory settings associated with the reserved seating location, and activate a visual indicator to direct the passenger to the assigned/reserved seating location.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method for controlling a ride-sharing vehicle, comprising: receiving a reservation request for a ride-share vehicle from a passenger; associating a specific seating location of a plurality of seating locations with the passenger; receiving at least one predefined preference for a vehicle accessory setting, from the passenger and included with the request; determining that a vehicle accessory, to which the vehicle accessory setting can be applied, is associated with the specific seating location; controlling the vehicle accessory in response to receiving the reservation for the seating location having the predefined preference; and activating a vehicle-based visual indicator associated with the seating location associated with the passenger prior to arriving at the scheduled passenger pick-up location. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the request also includes a scheduled passenger pick-up location and wherein the controlling changes the settings of the vehicle accessory according to the preferences prior to the vehicle arriving at the pick-up location. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle accessory includes vehicle climate control. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle accessory includes seat temperature control. 5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle accessory includes interior lighting. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle accessory includes a seat positioner. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the request includes a specific seat request for the specific seating location. 8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the vehicle comprises a plurality of modules with at least one module associated with each seating location configured to communicate with a passenger mobile device, the method further comprising: transmitting a seating location availability signal to a remote server in response to a passenger exiting the vehicle as detected based on signals received from the passenger mobile device by at least two of the modules. 9 . A vehicle comprising: one or more processors configured to: receive a reservation request for a ride-share vehicle from a passenger, wherein the request also includes a scheduled passenger pick-up location; associate a specific seating location of a plurality of seating locations with the passenger; receive at least one predefined preference for a vehicle accessory setting, from the passenger and included with the request; determine that a vehicle accessory, to which the vehicle accessory setting can be applied, is associated with the specific seating location; control the vehicle accessory in response to receiving the reservation for the seating location having the predefined preference wherein the control changes the settings of the vehicle accessory according to the preferences prior to the vehicle arriving at the pick-up location; and activate a visual indicator associated with the seating location associated with the passenger prior to arriving at the scheduled passenger pick-up location. 10 . The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the vehicle accessory includes vehicle climate control. 11 . The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the vehicle accessory includes seat temperature control. 12 . The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the vehicle accessory includes interior lighting. 13 . The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the vehicle accessory includes a seat positioner. 14 . The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the request includes a specific seat request for the specific seating location. 15 . The vehicle of claim 14 , wherein the vehicle comprises a plurality of modules with at least one module associated with each seating location configured to communicate with a passenger mobile device, the one or more processors further configured to transmit a seating location availability signal to a remote server in response to a passenger exiting the vehicle as detected based on signals received from the passenger mobile device by at least two of the modules. 16 . A non-transitory storage medium storing instruction that, when executed, cause an executing processor to perform the method comprising: receiving a reservation request for a ride-share vehicle from a passenger; associating a specific seating location of a plurality of seating locations with the passenger; receiving at least one predefined preference for a vehicle accessory setting, from the passenger and included with the request; determining that a vehicle accessory, to which the vehicle accessory setting can be applied, is associated with the specific seating location; controlling the vehicle accessory in response to receiving the reservation for the seating location having the predefined preference; and activating a vehicle-based visual indicator associated with the seating location associated with the passenger prior to arriving at the scheduled passenger pick-up location. 17 . The storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the request also includes a scheduled passenger pick-up location and wherein the controlling changes the settings of the vehicle accessory according to the preferences prior to the vehicle arriving at the pick-up location.
