Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A piezoelectric transducer comprises a deflectable structure having a first portion and a laterally adjoining second portion. The first portion has a piezoelectric layer and the second portion has an insulating material layer, and the second portion has a higher rigidity and a smaller mass per unit area than the first portion.

What is claimed is: 1 . A piezoelectric transducer comprising: a deflectable structure comprising a first portion and a second portion laterally directly adjoining the first portion, wherein the first portion has a piezoelectric layer and the second portion comprises a first insulating material layer, and wherein the second portion has a higher rigidity and a smaller mass per unit area than the first portion. 2 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 1 , wherein: the deflectable structure comprises a deflectable membrane structure which extends from a clamped border region to a center point of the deflectable membrane structure; the first portion adjoins the clamped border region; and the second portion is arranged between the first portion and the center point. 3 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 2 , wherein the first portion comprises between 50% and 95% of the deflectable membrane structure. 4 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 1 , wherein: the deflectable structure comprises a deflectable cantilevered structure extending from a clamped border region to an end region of the deflectable cantilevered structure; the first portion adjoins the clamped border region; and the second portion is arranged between the first portion and the end region of the deflectable cantilevered structure. 5 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 4 , wherein the first portion is arranged to form between 40 and 60% of the deflectable cantilevered structure. 6 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 1 , wherein the first portion comprises at least one corrugation with a corrugated piezoelectric transducing layer. 7 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 1 , wherein the piezoelectric layer of the first portion is configured to provide an electrical output signal in response to a deflection of the deflectable structure. 8 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 7 , wherein the piezoelectric layer of the first portion is configured to provide the electrical output signal in response to a mechanical stress in the piezoelectric layer based on the deflection of the deflectable structure. 9 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 1 , wherein the piezoelectric layer of the first portion is arranged to provide a deflection of the deflectable structure in response to an electrical input signal. 10 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 1 , wherein the second portion of the deflectable structure comprises a structural stiffening element for increasing a rigidity of the second portion relative to the first portion of the deflectable structure. 11 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 10 , wherein the structural stiffening element comprises at least one of a rib, a ridge, a hole, a flap or an additional stiffening layer. 12 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 10 , wherein the structural stiffening element comprises a piezoelectric material or an insulating material. 13 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 1 , wherein only the first portion comprises the piezoelectric layer. 14 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 1 , wherein the first portion comprises: a layer stack having the piezoelectric layer for generating an electrical output signal; and a second insulating material layer. 15 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 14 , wherein the first portion and the second portion comprise the same insulating material layer. 16 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 14 , wherein the second portion comprises only the first insulating material layer. 17 . A piezoelectric transducer comprising: a deflectable cantilevered structure comprising: a piezoelectric layer having a first portion disposed on a carrier structure and a second portion adjoining the first portion, wherein the second portion is suspended away from the carrier structure, and an insulating material layer adjoining the second portion and extending to an end of the insulating material layer, wherein the insulating material layer is suspended away from the carrier structure and has a higher rigidity and a smaller mass per unit area than the second portion of the piezoelectric layer. 18 . The piezoelectric transducer of claim 17 , wherein the piezoelectric layer comprises a passivation material disposed on a piezoelectric material, and wherein the insulating material layer comprises the passivation material extending laterally from the piezoelectric layer. 19 . A piezoelectric transducer comprising: a deflectable structure comprising a first portion and a second portion laterally adjoining the first portion, wherein the first portion has a piezoelectric layer and the second portion comprises a first insulating material layer, wherein the second portion has a higher rigidity and a smaller mass per unit area than the first portion, wherein the first portion comprises: a layer stack having the piezoelectric layer for generating an electrical output signal, and a second insulating material layer, and wherein the second portion comprises only the first insulating material layer. 20 . A piezoelectric transducer comprising: a deflectable structure comprising a first portion and a second portion laterally adjoining the first portion, wherein the first portion has a piezoelectric layer and the second portion comprises a first insulating material layer, wherein the second portion has a higher rigidity and a smaller mass per unit area than the first portion, wherein the first portion comprises: a layer stack having the piezoelectric layer for generating an electrical output signal, and a second insulating material layer, and wherein only the second portion comprises the first insulating material layer.
