Official abstract text for this publication.
Onboard EC window controllers are described. The controllers are configured in close proximity to the EC window, for example, within the IGU. The controller may be part of a window assembly, which includes an IGU having one or more EC panes, and thus does not have to be matched with the EC window, and installed, in the field. The window controllers described herein have a number of advantages because they are matched to the IGU containing one or more EC devices and their proximity to the EC panes of the window overcomes a number of problems associated with conventional controller configurations. Also described are self-meshing networks for electrochromic windows.

What is claimed is: 1 . An integrated glazing unit (IGU) comprising: (a) a first pane comprising a first pane edge; (b) a laminate comprising: a first substrate, a second substrate, an electronic device provided between the first and second substrates, and one or more electrical leads coupled to the electronic device, wherein the first substrate is attached to the first pane; (c) an electrical connection having a first end and a second end, the first end being electrically connected with at least one of the one or more electrical leads; (d) a second pane comprising a second pane edge, the second pane being coupled to the laminate by a spacer maintaining a distance between the laminate and the second pane, said spacer being recessed with respect to the second pane edge, wherein an interpane volume is formed between the first pane and the second pane; (e) a dock positioned within the interpane volume, peripherally outside of the spacer and in an unsealed region of the IGU, wherein the dock is suitable for receiving the second end of the electrical connection; and (f) a logic device configured to control the electronic device, wherein the logic device is positioned in the dock or in a carrier positioned in or on the dock such that the logic device is positioned at least partially within the interpane volume in the unsealed region of the IGU. 2 . The IGU of claim 1 , wherein the dock further comprises a portion of the electrical connection. 3 . The IGU of claim 1 , wherein the dock comprises an external surface configured to interface with a sealant material. 4 . The IGU of claim 1 , wherein the dock comprises an opening suitable for allowing passage of the electrical connection. 5 . The IGU of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the interpane volume, exterior of the spacer, is filled with a sealant material, embedding a surface of the dock. 6 . The IGU of claim 1 , wherein the laminate further comprises: a first transparent conductive layer on the first substrate, a first bus bar applied to the first transparent conductive layer, an electrochromic material layer, a second transparent conductive layer on the second substrate, and a second bus bar applied to the second transparent conductive layer. 7 . The IGU of claim 1 , wherein the electrical connection is wiring. 8 . The IGU of claim 1 , wherein the second end of the electrical connection is electrically connected with a window controller comprising the logic device. 9 . The IGU of claim 1 , comprising the dock and the carrier positioned in or on the dock, wherein the logic device is positioned in or on the carrier. 10 . The IGU of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device is selected from the group consisting of an electrochromic device, a liquid crystal device, a suspended particle device, and combinations thereof. 11 . A method of producing an integrated glazing unit (IGU), the method comprising: laminating an electronic device between a first substrate and a second substrate to form a laminate, wherein the laminate further comprises one or more electrical leads coupled to the electronic device; attaching the first substrate of the laminate to a first pane having a first pane edge; attaching a second pane having a second pane edge to a spacer, wherein the spacer maintains a distance between the laminate and the second pane, wherein the spacer is recessed with respect to the second pane edge, and wherein an interpane volume is formed between the first pane and the second pane; connecting a first end of an electrical connection to at least one of the one or more electrical leads of the laminate; positioning a dock within the interpane volume, peripherally outside of the spacer and in an unsealed region of the IGU; positioning a logic device in the dock or in a carrier in or on the dock such that the logic device is positioned at least partially within the interpane volume in the unsealed region of the IGU, wherein the logic device is configured to control the electronic device; positioning a second end of the electrical connection in or on the dock; and filling at least a portion of the interpane volume with a sealing material, wherein the logic device remains at least partially within the unsealed region of the IGU.
