Official abstract text for this publication.
The disclosed distributed monopole antenna may include a first conductive plate and a second conductive plate. The distributed monopole antenna may also include multiple different vias that electrically connect the first conductive plate to the second conductive plate. Still further, the distributed monopole antenna may include an antenna feed electrically connected to at least one of the vias. Various other systems, methods of manufacturing, and wearable electronic devices that implement distributed monopole antennas are also disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1 . A system comprising: a plurality of connected cells, wherein each cell includes: a first conductive plate portion; a second conductive plate portion; and a via that electrically connects the first and second conductive plate portions of the cell, wherein the plurality of connected cells is arranged in a line to form an antenna configured to operate within a specified frequency range tuned based on a specified size of a cell of the plurality of connected cells; and an antenna feed electrically connected to at least one of the vias in the plurality of connected cells. 2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of connected cells is formed at the specified size, wherein the specified size of the plurality of connected cells tunes the antenna for operation within the specified frequency range. 3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the antenna feed is electrically connected to the cell of the plurality of connected cells that is formed at the specified size, such that the antenna operates within the specified frequency range. 4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the via for one or more of the plurality of connected cells is formed having a specified diameter, and wherein the diameter of the via tunes the antenna for operation within a specified frequency range. 5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the antenna feed is electrically connected to at least one of the connected cells that is formed with the via having the specified diameter, such that the antenna operates within the specified frequency range. 6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the vias is separated from one or more other vias by at least a specified amount. 7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the antenna feed is connectable to any of the plurality of vias in the line of vias. 8 . The system of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the plurality of vias has a diameter below a specified maximum diameter. 9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein at least one cell of the plurality of connected cells includes four vias arranged in a square pattern between the first conductive plate and the second conductive plate. 10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the antenna feed is connected to a fifth, center via that is centered within the four vias arranged in the square pattern. 11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the antenna feed transfers power to the plurality of connected cells, causing emission of radio waves that excite one or more creeping waves in a user's body. 12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the creeping waves travel through at least a portion of the user's body to a second, receiving antenna. 13 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the antenna feed comprises one or more electronic antenna feed components. 14 . The system of claim 13 , further comprising a printed circuit board, wherein the electronic antenna feed components are disposed on at least a portion of the printed circuit board. 15 . An electronic device comprising: a plurality of connected cells, wherein each cell includes: a first conductive plate portion; a second conductive plate portion; and a via that electrically connects the first and second conductive plate portions of the cell, wherein the plurality of connected cells is arranged in a line to form an antenna configured to operate within a specified frequency range tuned based on a specified size of a cell of the plurality of connected cells; and an antenna feed electrically connected to at least one of the vias in the plurality of connected cells.
