A removable manifold for a medical/surgical waste collection system. The manifold is dimensioned to be mounted to a receiver integral with the system. The manifold includes at least one tube through which waste is drawn into a manifold cage. The tube extends through an inlet port into a void space internal to the manifold cage at an angle. The tube exits the manifold cage and is centered along an axis that is off center to the longitudinal axis of the manifold cage where it engages a complementary valve internal to the receiver. The valve regulates flow between the receiver and the down line components of the waste collection system. The valve is normally closed. When the manifold is fitted to the receiver the tube engages the valve and rotation of the manifold moves the valve to the open position allowing fluid flow from the manifold and receiver to the downstream components of the system.

What is claimed is: 1 . A manifold assembly for use with a waste collection system comprising: a manifold cage that is removably inserted into a manifold receiver of the waste collection system, the manifold cage comprising: a circular base plate comprising an outlet port extending through the base plate, wherein the outlet port is offset from a center of the circular base plate in a first direction, and a circular cap plate connected with and spaced apart from the base plate and comprising an inlet opening extending through the cap plate, wherein the inlet opening is offset from a center of the circular cap plate in a second direction different from the first direction such that the base plate outlet port and cap plate inlet opening are not axially aligned, wherein the manifold cage comprises a tube extending between the circular cap plate inlet opening and the circular base plate outlet port. 2 . The manifold assembly of claim 1 wherein the center of the circular base plate and the center of the circular cap plate are aligned along a longitudinal axis of the manifold cage. 3 . The manifold assembly of claim 2 wherein the manifold receiver has a cylindrical shape. 4 . The manifold assembly of claim 3 wherein the longitudinal axis of the manifold cage aligns with a central axis of the manifold receiver. 5 . The manifold assembly of claim 1 wherein the tube is not parallel to a longitudinal axis of the manifold cage. 6 . A manifold assembly for use with a waste collection system comprising: a manifold cage that is removably inserted into a manifold receiver of the waste collection system, the manifold cage comprising a base plate, a cap plate spaced apart from the base plate, and a rib connecting the base plate and the cap plate; wherein the cage comprises a longitudinal axis; wherein the cap plate comprises an opening that is offset from the cage longitudinal axis; wherein the base plate comprises a port that is offset from the cage longitudinal axis and offset from the cap plate opening; and wherein the manifold cage comprises a tube extending between the cap plate opening and the port. 7 . The manifold assembly of claim 6 wherein the manifold cage has a cylindrical shape. 8 . The manifold assembly of claim 6 wherein the manifold cage has a tapered cylindrical shape. 9 . The manifold assembly of claim 6 wherein the manifold cage has a truncated conical shape. 10 . The manifold assembly of claim 6 wherein the cap plate is circular. 11 . The manifold assembly of claim 10 wherein the base plate is circular. 12 . The manifold assembly of claim 11 wherein the cap plate and base plate have the same diameter. 13 . The manifold assembly of claim 11 wherein the base plate has a first diameter, and the cap plate has a second diameter that is greater than the first diameter. 14 . The manifold assembly of claim 11 wherein a central axis of the cap plate aligns with the cage longitudinal axis. 15 . The manifold assembly of claim 14 wherein the cap plate opening is offset from the cap plate central axis. 16 . The manifold assembly of claim 14 wherein a central axis of the base plate aligns with the cage longitudinal axis. 17 . The manifold assembly of claim 16 wherein the base plate port is offset from the base plate central axis. 18 . The manifold assembly of claim 14 wherein a central axis of the base plate is offset from the cage longitudinal axis. 19 . The manifold assembly of claim 18 wherein the base plate port aligns with the base plate central axis.
