Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An adjustable child carrier includes an adjustable bucket seat that can be adjusted to accommodate children of a wide range of sizes. The child carrier includes one or more adjustments that work alone or in cooperation to adjust the depth and width of the bucket seat area provided by the child carrier. The carrier is capable of supporting children of various sizes in an ergonomic position appropriate for the child's size.

The invention claimed is: 1 . An adjustable child carrier, the adjustable child carrier comprising: a body configured to support a child, wherein the body is adapted to form a child carrying area in cooperation with a torso of a wearer, wherein the body forms a bucket seat configured to support legs of the child; a first shoulder strap coupled to the body and configured to extend over a first shoulder of the wearer; a second shoulder strap coupled to the body and configured to extend over a second shoulder of the wearer; a waist belt coupled to the body and adapted for securing about a wearer's hips, wherein the waist belt defines a first setting, a second setting, and a third setting; and at least one base width adjuster coupled to the body, the at least one base width adjuster positioned on an outer side of the body such that the at least one base width adjuster faces away from the wearer, wherein selectively attaching the at least one base width adjuster to the first setting, the second setting, or the third setting simultaneously adjusts both a width of the bucket seat and a length of the body to accommodate various sizes of the child as the child ages, wherein the length of the body is defined from a bottom of the bucket seat to a top of the body. 2 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 , wherein the first shoulder strap comprises a first attachment for securing a neck support to the first shoulder strap, wherein the second shoulder strap comprises a second attachment for securing the neck support to the second shoulder strap. 3 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 2 , wherein the neck support is configured in an outside folded down position when the neck support is secured to the first attachment and the second attachment. 4 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 , wherein the at least one base width adjuster comprises a plurality of hooks, wherein the first setting, the second setting, and the third setting comprises a plurality of loops, and wherein selectively attaching the at least one base width adjuster to the first setting, the second setting, or the third setting fastens the plurality of hooks to the plurality of loops comprised on the first setting, the second setting, or the third setting to thereby form a hook and loop fastening mechanism. 5 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 , wherein the first setting is at least partially laterally displaced from the second setting, the second setting is at least partially laterally displaced from the third setting, and the first setting is at least partially laterally displaced from the third setting, wherein the first setting is at least partially vertically displaced from the second setting, the second setting is at least partially vertically displaced from the third setting, and the first setting is at least partially vertically displaced from the third setting, and wherein the waist belt defines the second setting between the first setting and the third setting. 6 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 , wherein selectively attaching the at least one base width adjuster at the first setting adjusts the length of the body to a first length and the width of the bucket seat to a first width, wherein selectively attaching the at least one base width adjuster at the second setting adjusts the length of the body to a second length greater than the first length and the width of the bucket seat to a second width greater than the first width, wherein selectively attaching the at least one base width adjuster at the third setting adjusts the length of the body to a third length greater than the second length and the width of the bucket seat to a third width greater than the second width. 7 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 6 , wherein adjusting the length of the body to the first length and the width of the bucket seat to the first width configures the adjustable child carrier in an infant mode, wherein, in the infant mode, the adjustable child carrier is capable of carrying the child when a height of the child is within a range of 20-24 inches. 8 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 7 , wherein adjusting the length of the body to the third length and the width of the bucket seat to the third width configures the adjustable child carrier in a toddler mode, wherein, in the toddler mode, the adjustable child carrier is capable of carrying the child when the height of the child is greater than 28 inches. 9 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 , wherein each of the first setting, the second setting, and the third setting is a discrete location on the waist belt at which the wearer selectively attaches the at least one base width adjuster. 10 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 1 , wherein each of the first setting, the second setting, and the third setting is visible to the wearer for the selective attachment of the at least one base width adjuster. 11 . An adjustable child carrier for supporting a child by a user, the adjustable child carrier comprising: a body configured to support the child between the body and a torso of the user, wherein the body forms a bucket seat configured to support legs of the child; a first shoulder strap coupled to the body and configured to extend over a first shoulder of the user; a second shoulder strap coupled to the body and configured to extend over a second shoulder of the user; a waist belt coupled to the body and adapted for securing about hips of the user, wherein the waist belt comprises a fastening mechanism, the fastening mechanism defining a first position, a second position, and a third position, wherein the first position corresponds to a first setting, the second position corresponds to a second setting, and the third position corresponds to a third setting; and at least one base width adjuster coupled to the body, the at least one base width adjuster positioned on an outer side of the body such that the at least one base width adjuster faces away from the user, wherein adjustment of the at least one base width adjuster among the first position, the second position, and the third position simultaneously adjusts a length of the body and a width of the bucket seat to configure the adjustable child carrier to one of the first setting, the second setting, or the third setting, the length defined from a bottom of the bucket seat to a top of the body. 12 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 11 , wherein the first shoulder strap and the second shoulder strap are configured to form an X configuration on the user's back when the first shoulder strap extends over the first shoulder and the second shoulder strap extends over the second shoulder of the user, wherein, in the X configuration, at least a portion of the first shoulder strap crosses over at least a portion of the second shoulder strap. 13 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 11 , wherein the waist belt cooperates with the first shoulder strap and the second shoulder strap to form a harness, the harness configured to position the adjustable child carrier in a front inward facing configuration, side inward facing configuration, and a rear inward facing configuration. 14 . The adjustable child carrier of claim 11 , wherein adjustment of the at least one base width adjuster among the first position, the second position, and the third position comprises selectively attaching the at least one base width adjuster to the first position, the second position, or the third position defined by the fastening mechanism, wherein the at least one base width adjuster attaches
