Abstract

A collection bottle includes a lid and a canister. The canister has a closed end and an opened end and defines an interior space. The lid includes a lid body having a first side and a second side, a shield handle, and one or more ports. The first side of the lid body is configured to be coupled to the open end of the body to close the interior space. The shield handle and the one or more ports extend from the second side of the lid body. The shield handle extends a first distance from the second side of the lid body. The one or more ports extend a second distance from the second side of the lid body. The first distance is greater than the first distance.

First claim

What is claimed is:

1 . A collection bottle comprising:
a canister having a closed end and an open end and defining an interior space; and a lid having a first outer perimeter and including
a lid body having a first side and a second side and being configured to be coupled to the open end of the lid body to close the interior space,
a shield handle including a disk-shaped portion having a second outer perimeter that is less than the first outer perimeter of the lid and a recessed area continuously disposed between the disk-shaped portion and the first side of the lid body, the recessed area having a third outer perimeter that is less than the second outer perimeter, and
one or more ports,
the shield handle and the one or more ports extending from the second side of the lid body,
the shield handle extending a first distance from the second side of the lid body,
the one or more ports extending a second distance from the second side of the lid body,
the first distance being greater than the second distance.

2 . The collection bottle of claim 1 , wherein the first outer perimeter of the lid body is coupled to the canister.

3 . The collection bottle of claim 2 , wherein
the lid includes a rim, and the open end of the canister includes a sealing edge, the rim and sealing edge being welded together.

4 . The collection bottle of claim 1 , wherein the one or more ports include;
a fluid port defining a first flow path from an exterior of the collection bottle to the interior space, and an outer port defining a second flow path from the interior space to the exterior of the collection bottle.

5 . The collection bottle of claim 4 , wherein
the fluid port extends from a first point of the second side of the lid body, the outer port extends from a second point of the second side of the lid body, and the first and second points are diametrically opposed.

6 . The collection bottle of claim 4 , wherein a fluid port cap is coupled to an open end of the fluid port closing the first flow path.

7 . The collection bottle of claim 6 , wherein the fluid port cap has a major length that is less than the second distance.

8 . The collection bottle of claim 4 , wherein a fluid tube is coupled to an open end of the fluid port extending the first flow path.

9 . The collection bottle of claim 8 , wherein the fluid tube has a major length that is less than the second distance.

10 . The collection bottle of claim 4 , wherein a vent tube is coupled to the outer port extending the second flow path.

11 . The collection bottle of claim 10 , wherein a filter is disposed in the vent tube.

12 . The collection bottle of claim 10 , wherein the vent tube has a major length that is less than the second distance.

13 . The collection bottle of claim 1 , wherein the canister is transparent or translucent, and the lid is opaque.

14 . The collection bottle of claim 1 , wherein the lid body further includes:
a base coupled to the first side of the lid and to a side of the disk-shaped portion facing the first side of the lid body, the base including one or more angled portions configured to align the collection bottle within a cradle of a medical device.

15 . The collection bottle of claim 1 , wherein the shield handle is centrally disposed relative to the first side of the lid body.

16 . A collection bottle transport package comprising:
a container configured to receive one or more rows of collection bottles, each row of the one or more rows including a plurality of collection bottles arranged side-by-side, each of the collection bottles of the plurality of collection bottles including:
a canister having a closed end and an open end and defining an interior space; and
a lid having a first outer perimeter and including
a lid body having a first side and a second side and being configured to be coupled to an open end of the lid body to close the interior space,
a shield handle including a disk-shaped portion having a second outer perimeter that is less than the first outer perimeter of the lid and a recessed area continuously disposed between the disk-shaped portion and the first side of the lid body, the recessed area having a third outer perimeter that is less than the second outer perimeter, and
one or more ports,
the shield handle and the one or more ports extending from the second side of the lid body
the shield handle extending a first distance from the second side of the lid body,
the one or more ports extending a second distance from the second side of the lid body,
the first distance being greater than the second first distance.

17 . The collection bottle transport package of claim 16 , wherein the one or more rows includes a first row and a second row, the disk-shaped portion of each collection bottle of the first row contacting the closed end of the canister of a respective collection bottle in the second row.

18 . The collection bottle transport package of claim 16 , wherein the one or more ports include:
a fluid port defining a first flow path from an exterior of the collection bottle to the interior space, and an outer port defining a second flow path from the interior space to the exterior of the collection bottle.
