Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system for dispensing agricultural products includes at least one source of agricultural product; at least one agricultural product tube, a seed sensing device, a metering system, and a sensor assembly. At least one agricultural product tube is connected to the source of agricultural product. The seed sensing device is configured to control the delivery of the agricultural product. The metering system is coupled to at least one agricultural product tube and to the seed sensing device and is configured to synchronize the placement of agricultural product relative to the placement of seed. A sensor assembly includes a signal conditioning circuit. The signal conditioning circuit is configured to provide an output signal representing an indication of the presence of the agricultural product. At least one seed for use in determining the synchronized placement of seed and the agricultural product in correct proximity with one another in a seed furrow.

The invention claimed is: 1 . A system for dispensing agricultural products, comprising: at least one source of agricultural product; at least one agricultural product tube operatively connected to said source of agricultural product; a seed sensing device configured to control the delivery of said agricultural product; a metering system operatively coupled to said at least one agricultural product tube and to said seed sensing device and configured to synchronize the placement of at least one agricultural product relative to the placement of seed; and, a sensor assembly, comprising: a signal conditioning circuit configured to provide an output signal representing an indication of the presence of said agricultural product and at least one seed for use in determining the synchronized placement of seed and said agricultural product in correct proximity with one another in a seed furrow; wherein the presence of both a seed mass component and an agricultural product mass component of the output signal defines a package mass; and, wherein said output signal has a pre-defined value and is transmitted to a controller to determine whether there is an error; wherein said error corresponds to a failure of the controller to detect a signal consistent with the presence of both a seed and agricultural product passing through the sensor assembly as the package mass; wherein said controller is configured to generate an error signal that is capable of being displayable on a remote display/user interface system that can be monitored by the system operator; and wherein synchronized delivery of liquid with seed results in strips of untreated soil in the furrow in the space between each planted seed. 2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said controller generates data: a. indicating whether seed and liquid crop enhancement agricultural products were planted together; b. indicating whether seeds were planted without liquid crop enhancement agricultural product; and/or c. indicating whether liquid crop enhancement agricultural product was applied without seed. 3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said sensor assembly comprises: a. a first electrically conductive plate operatively connected to said signal conditioning circuit; and, b. a second electrically conductive plate operatively connected to said signal conditioning circuit, said first and second electrically conductive plates being spaced apart at a predetermined distance, wherein said first and second electrically conductive plates are oriented so that both seed and liquid crop enhancement product flow therebetween during planting. 4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein: said agricultural product metering system comprises a peristaltic-based pump system. 5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein: said seed sensing device is configured to sense placement of seed from a planter configured to operate at a planter speed in a range of about 2 mph to 5 mph. 6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein: said seed sensing device is configured to sense placement of seed from a planter configured to operate at a high planter speed, said high planter speed being defined as greater than 5 mph. 7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein: said pulsing system includes electrical pulsing valves physically placed on said output ends of said at least one agricultural product tube. 8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said agricultural product metering system comprises a solenoid system. 9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein an identification device is positioned in association with an agricultural product container for providing identification information. 10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein a radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip is positioned in association with an agricultural product container for providing identification information. 11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein, said agricultural product metering system is configured to dispense enhancement products at a low rate defined as below about 3.7 fluid ounces per 1000 row feet, or at an ultra-low-rate defined as below 1.0 fluid ounces per 1000 row feet; and said system is operative to synchronized placement of said crop enhancement agricultural products within ½ inch of the seed.
