Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An example bag may include a first sidewall, a second sidewall, a top wall, and a bottom wall. The bottom wall may include an outer layer, and the bottom wall may be secured to the first sidewall and the second sidewall by wrapping a fabric forming the first sidewall and the second sidewall over sections of the outer layer. The bag may further include a closure and a pair of straps. The first sidewall and the second sidewall may include endcaps having a first layered structure, the first layered structure may include a compression molded outer layer and an additional structural layer formed of a first foam material, and the endcaps may be more rigid than the first sidewall, the second sidewall, and the top wall. The bottom wall may include a second layered structure formed of a second foam material positioned on the outer layer, and the bottom wall may be more rigid than the first sidewall, the second sidewall, and the top wall.

What is claimed is: 1 . A bag comprising: a first endcap, a second endcap, a top wall, a bottom wall, a first sidewall, and a second sidewall, wherein the first endcap and the second endcap are positioned over an outer layer of the bottom wall, wherein the first endcap and the second endcap comprise a rigid structure and maintain a general shape of the bag during use, wherein the first endcap and the second endcap are compression molded, and wherein the first endcap and the second endcap are affixed to the top wall, the bottom wall, the first sidewall, and the second sidewall by welding; a pocket positioned on the first sidewall; a closure; a plurality of reinforcement patches positioned on the first sidewall and the second sidewall, wherein a first reinforcement patch and a third reinforcement patch are positioned on the first sidewall, wherein a second reinforcement patch and a fourth reinforcement patch are positioned on the second sidewall, wherein a horizontal distance between the first reinforcement patch and the third reinforcement patch forms a first width, wherein the pocket comprises a second width, and wherein the second width is less than the first width; and a pair of straps. 2 . The bag of claim 1 , wherein the pair of straps further include a strap adjuster configured to adjust a length of the pair of straps. 3 . The bag of claim 1 , wherein the top wall is configured to engage a back of a user during use as a backpack. 4 . The bag of claim 1 , wherein the pair of straps extend along a length of the bag. 5 . The bag of claim 1 , wherein the bottom wall is more rigid than the top wall. 6 . The bag of claim 5 , wherein the bottom wall further includes a rigid plate, wherein the rigid plate comprises a polymer or a plastic. 7 . The bag of claim 5 , wherein the bottom wall further includes an additional structural layer, wherein the additional structural layer comprises a foam material. 8 . The bag of claim 1 , wherein the first endcap and the second endcap comprise a greater thickness than a thickness of the top wall, the first sidewall, and the second sidewall. 9 . The bag of claim 8 , wherein the first endcap and the second endcap comprise a first layered structure and a second layered structure, wherein the first layered structure includes a compression molded outer layer, and wherein the second layered structure includes a foam material. 10 . The bag of claim 1 , wherein the first endcap, the second endcap, the top wall, the bottom wall, the first sidewall, and the second sidewall form a water-resistant compartment for receiving contents in the bag. 11 . The bag of claim 1 , wherein the closure is a waterproof zipper assembly. 12 . The bag of claim 11 , wherein the closure forms a barrier to prevent liquid contents from either entering or exiting the bag. 13 . The bag of claim 12 , wherein the bag is configured to be submersible under water while keeping contents in the bag dry. 14 . A method of forming a bag comprising: forming a first sidewall; forming a second sidewall; forming a top wall; forming endcaps positioned on the first sidewall and second sidewall, wherein a first endcap and a second endcap comprise a rigid structure and maintain a general shape of the bag during use, wherein the first endcap and the second endcap are compression molded, wherein the first endcap and the second endcap are affixed to the top wall, the first sidewall, the first sidewall, and the second sidewall by welding, the endcaps having a first layered structure, wherein the first layered structure comprises a first compression molded outer layer and an additional structural layer formed of a first foam material, and wherein the endcaps comprise a more rigid structure than the first sidewall, the second sidewall, and the top wall; forming a bottom wall, wherein the bottom wall comprises an outer layer, and wherein the bottom wall is secured to the first sidewall and the second sidewall by wrapping a fabric forming the first sidewall and the second sidewall over sections of the outer layer, wherein the bottom wall comprises a second layered structure formed of a first foam material positioned on the outer layer, and wherein the bottom wall is more rigid than the first sidewall, the second sidewall, and the top wall, and wherein the endcaps are positioned over the outer layer of the bottom wall; forming a closure positioned on the top wall and configured to move from an open position to a closed position; and forming a pair of straps. 15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the first sidewall, the second sidewall, the top wall, and the bottom wall, form a water-resistant compartment for receiving contents in the bag. 16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the closure is a waterproof zipper assembly. 17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the closure forms a barrier to prevent liquid contents from either entering or exiting the bag. 18 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the bag is configured to be submersible under water while keeping contents in the bag dry. 19 . A bag comprising: a first sidewall, a second sidewall, a top wall, and a bottom wall, wherein the bottom wall comprises an outer layer, and wherein the bottom wall is secured to the first sidewall and the second sidewall by wrapping a fabric forming the first sidewall and the second sidewall over sections of the outer layer; a closure; and a pair of straps, wherein the first sidewall and the second sidewall comprise endcaps having a first layered structure, wherein the first layered structure comprises a compression molded outer layer and an additional structural layer formed of a first foam material, wherein the endcaps are positioned over the outer layer of the bottom wall, and wherein the endcaps are more rigid than the first sidewall, the second sidewall, and the top wall, wherein a first endcap and a second endcap comprise a rigid structure and maintain a general shape of the bag during use, and wherein the first endcap and the second endcap are compression molded; and wherein the bottom wall comprises a second layered structure formed of a second foam material positioned on the outer layer, and wherein the bottom wall is more rigid than the first sidewall, the second sidewall, and the top wall. 20 .
