A surgical garment configured for attachment to a surgical helmet, wherein the surgical garment defines a barrier between the wearer and the environment. The surgical helmet includes a peripheral device, a chin bar, and a coupling member. The coupling member may be recessed within the chin bar. The surgical garment may comprise an attachment element configured to removably couple with the coupling member of the surgical helmet. The coupling member and attachment member may comprise reciprocal features, such as a protrusion and a recess. The protrusion and/or corresponding recess may comprise a curved or similarly shaped surface configured to resist decoupling of the attachment member and the coupling member when a force is applied to the surgical garment.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method of attaching a surgical garment to a surgical helmet, the surgical helmet comprising a peripheral device and a face frame defining a first attachment recess, with the face frame including a first magnet at least partially disposed within said first attachment recess such that a distal surface of the first magnet is positioned proximal to a distal surface of the face frame, said method comprising: providing a surgical garment including a transparent face shield and a surgical fabric, and a first attachment element coupled to the transparent face shield or the fabric, the surgical garment being inside-out, the first attachment element comprising a ferromagnetic material or a magnetic material; coupling the surgical garment to the surgical helmet by positioning the first attachment element of the surgical garment within the first attachment recess and adjacent to the first magnet disposed on the face frame of the surgical helmet such that a proximal surface of the first attachment element is at least partially disposed within the first attachment recess and is proximal to the distal surface of the face frame, wherein an edge of the first attachment element is completely encircled by walls defining the first attachment recess; producing a signal from a detector, the detector configured to detect the coupling of the first attachment element to the first magnet and to produce the signal based, at least in part, on a presence or absence of the first attachment element being adjacent to the first magnet; and manipulating the surgical garment to position the transparent face shield in front of a wearer's face. 2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising detecting whether the surgical garment is coupled to the surgical helmet utilizing the detector; controlling an operational characteristic of the peripheral device of the surgical helmet based, at least in part, on whether the garment is coupled to the surgical helmet. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the surgical helmet further comprises: a controller in communication with the detector and the peripheral device; a memory device coupled to the surgical helmet and in communication with the controller, the memory device configured to store data related to an operational characteristic of the peripheral device; an energy source removably interconnected with the surgical helmet, the energy source in communication with the controller; and an energy sensor in communication with the controller, the energy sensor configured to detect the remaining power level of the energy source and communicate an energy signal to the controller based on the remaining power level of the energy source. 4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising: storing a user setting of the peripheral device on the memory device; separating the surgical garment from the surgical helmet while the energy source is interconnected with the surgical helmet; ceasing operation of the peripheral device upon receiving the signal from the detector indicating the surgical garment is separated from the surgical helmet; coupling a second surgical garment to the surgical helmet while the energy source remains interconnected with the surgical helmet; restarting the peripheral device based on the user setting stored on the memory device. 5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the memory device is configured to store data related to a plurality of configurations of the surgical garment; and said method further comprises: identifying one of the plurality of configurations of the surgical garment that is coupled to the surgical helmet using the detector; communicating the identified configuration of the surgical garment to the controller; and communicating a command related to at least one operational characteristic of the peripheral device based, at least in part, on the identified configuration of the surgical garment. 6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving the signal from the detector indicating the surgical garment is coupled to the surgical helmet; and delaying transmission of power from an energy source to the peripheral device for a defined first period of time following receipt of the signal from the detector. 7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising separating the surgical garment from the surgical helmet, such that the surgical garment is not coupled to the surgical helmet; receiving the signal from the detector indicating the surgical garment is separated from the surgical helmet; and continuing transmission of power to said peripheral device for a defined second period of time following receipt of the signal from the detector. 8 . The method of claim 1 , further composing the step of positioning a tab extending from a perimeter edge of the face shield within an alignment channel defined by the face frame of the surgical helmet to orient the surgical garment relative to the surgical helmet. 9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising the step of positioning a protrusion extending from within the alignment channel defined by the face frame within a coupling aperture at least partially defined by the tab of the face shield. 10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the step of positioning the protrusion extending within the coupling aperture of the face shield occurs before positioning the first attachment element of the surgical garment to engage the first magnet disposed on the face frame of the surgical helmet. 11 . A method of attaching a surgical garment to a surgical helmet, the surgical helmet comprising a peripheral device and a face frame defining a first attachment recess, with the face frame including a first magnet at least partially disposed within said first attachment recess such that a distal surface of the first magnet is positioned proximal to a distal surface of the face frame, said method comprising: providing a surgical garment including a transparent face shield and a surgical fabric, and a first attachment element coupled to the transparent face shield or the fabric, the surgical garment being inside-out, the first attachment element comprising a ferromagnetic material or a magnetic material; coupling the surgical garment to the surgical helmet by positioning a tab extending from a perimeter edge of the face shield within an alignment channel defined by the face frame of the surgical helmet to orient the surgical garment relative to the surgical helmet; and manipulating the surgical garment to position the transparent face shield in front of a wearer's face; and positioning the first attachment element of the surgical garment within the first attachment recess defined by the face frame to couple the first attachment element to the first magnet. 12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the step of positioning the first attachment element of the surgical garment within the first attachment recess includes positioning the first attachment element within the first attachment recess such that a proximal surface of the first attachment element is proximal to the distal surface of the face frame. 13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the step of positioning the first attachment element of the surgical garment within the first attachment recess further comprises triggering a detector configured to detect the coupling of the surgical garment to the surgical helmet and to produce a signal based, at least in part, on a presence or absence of the surgical garment being coupled to the surgical helmet. 14 .
