Example embodiments presented herein are directed towards a wireless terminal and base station, and corresponding methods therein, for providing a handover for a subset of bearers associated with the wireless terminal. The subset of bearers is less than a total number of bearers associated with the wireless terminal. Thus, upon the completion of the handover procedure, at least one bearer will stay connected with a source base station.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method of operation in a wireless terminal, the method comprising: transmitting an indication to a source base station serving the wireless terminal, indicating that the wireless terminal supports selective handovers, which allow for identified subsets of bearers associated with the wireless terminal to be handed over; receiving a selective handover message from the source base station, the selective handover message identifying a subset of existing bearers to be handed over from the source base station to a target base station; and in response to determining that the identified subset is empty, establishing time alignment and synchronization with the target base station, while remaining connected to the source base station via the existing bearers. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the selective handover message includes a Physical Cell Identifier, PCI, identifying a cell of the target base station with which the wireless terminal is to establish the time alignment and synchronization. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein establishing the time alignment and synchronization with the target base station includes the wireless terminal sending, to the target base station, a random access synchronization request, and receiving, from the target base station, a random access response comprising an uplink grant and/or a timing advance command. 4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a subsequent selective handover message, indicating handover of a non-empty subset of the existing bearers from the source base station to the target base station and handing over the non-empty subset of the existing bearers to the target base station, based on the established time alignment and synchronization. 5 . A wireless terminal comprising: radio circuitry; and processing circuitry configured to: transmit, via the radio circuitry, an indication to a source base station serving the wireless terminal, indicating that the wireless terminal supports selective handover procedures, which allow for identified subsets of bearers associated with the wireless terminal to be handed over; receive, via the radio circuitry, a selective handover message from the source base station, the selective handover message identifying a subset of existing bearers to be handed over from the source base station to a target base station; and in response to determining that the identified subset is empty, use the radio circuitry to establish time alignment and synchronization with the target base station, while remaining connected to the source base station via the existing bearers. 6 . The wireless terminal of claim 5 , wherein the selective handover message includes a Physical Cell Identifier, PCI, identifying a cell of the target base station with which the wireless terminal is to establish the time alignment and synchronization. 7 . The wireless terminal of claim 5 , wherein, to establish the time alignment and synchronization with the target base station, the processing circuitry is configured to use the radio circuitry to send, to the target base station, a random access synchronization request and to receive, from the target base station, a random access response comprising an uplink grant and/or timing advance command. 8 . The wireless terminal of claim 7 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to receive, via the radio circuitry, a subsequent selective handover message indicating handover of a non-empty subset of the existing bearers from the source base station to the target base station, and handing over the non-empty subset of the existing bearers to the target base station, based on the established time alignment and synchronization. 9 . A method of operation by a base station operating as a source base station with respect to a wireless terminal, the method comprising: receiving an indication from the wireless terminal, indicating that the wireless terminal supports selective handovers, which allow for identified subsets of bearers associated with the wireless terminal to be handed over; and in dependence on having determined from the indication that the wireless terminal supports selective handovers, subsequently: triggering the wireless terminal to establish timing alignment and synchronization with a target base station without handing over any existing bearers used by the source base station for the wireless terminal, based on sending, to the wireless terminal, a selective handover message to the wireless terminal, indicating an empty subset of the existing bearers to be handed over to the target base station. 10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising subsequently sending a further selective handover message to the wireless terminal, indicating a non-empty subset of the existing bearers to be handed over to the target base station, based on the established time alignment and synchronization. 11 . A base station configured for operation as a source base station with respect to a wireless terminal, the base station comprising: radio circuitry; and processing circuitry configured to: receive an indication from the wireless terminal via the radio circuitry, indicating that the wireless terminal supports selective handovers, which allow for identified subsets of bearers associated with the wireless terminal to be handed over; and in dependence on having determined from the indication that the wireless terminal supports selective handovers, subsequently: trigger the wireless terminal to establish timing alignment and synchronization with a target base station without handing over any existing bearers used by the source base station for the wireless terminal, based on sending, via the radio circuitry, a selective handover message to the wireless terminal, indicating an empty subset of the existing bearers to be handed over to the target base station. 12 . The base station of claim 11 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to use the radio circuitry to send, to the wireless terminal, a subsequent selective handover message to the wireless terminal, indicating a non-empty subset of the existing bearers to be handed over to the target base station, based on the established time alignment and synchronization.
