Official abstract text for this publication.
A system and method for power distribution are disclosed. A processor detects a storage device having a scalable interface, where the scalable interface is for transferring data between a host device and the storage device. The processor determines power requirement of the storage device based on a signal from the scalable interface. At least one power supply unit coupled to the processor provides power to the storage device based on the determined power requirement.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method for power distribution comprising: detecting, by a processor, a first interface connected to a first storage device, the first interface for transferring data to the first storage device, the first interface being selected from a plurality of interfaces including the first interface and a second interface, the second interface having a second power requirement different from a first power requirement of the first interface; receiving a first identification signal for the first interface; determining, by the processor, the first power requirement of the first storage device based on the first identification signal for the first interface; identifying, by the processor, a first amount of power provided to the first storage device from a first power supply unit; and transmitting a second signal to a second power supply unit for providing a second amount of power to the first storage device based on the first amount of power and the first power requirement of the first storage device. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first interface comprises a connector having a form factor. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first storage device comprises a solid state drive. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining the first power requirement includes: searching a data structure for determining the first power requirement based on the first identification signal. 5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the data structure comprises a table associating the first identification signal to the first power requirement. 6 . The method of claim 1 further comprising: detecting that the second interface is connected to a second storage device; receiving a second identification signal for the second interface; and determining the second power requirement of the second storage device based on the second identification signal for the second interface, wherein the first interface includes a first number of communication lanes, and the second interface includes a second number of communication lanes different from the first number. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first identification signal is based on status of one or more connections of the first interface. 8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second amount of power is provided by the second power supply unit, the method further comprising: activating, by the processor the second power supply unit for delivering the second amount of power to the first storage device. 9 . A power distribution system comprising: a first storage device connected to a first interface, the first interface for transferring data to the first storage device, the first interface being selected from a plurality of interfaces including the first interface and a second interface, the second interface having a second power requirement different from a first power requirement of the first interface; a first power supply unit configured to provide a first amount of power; a second power supply unit configured to provide a first amount of power; and a processor coupled to the first storage device, the first power supply unit, and the second power supply unit, the processor being configured to: detect the first interface connected to the first storage device; receive a first identification signal for the first interface; determine the first power requirement of the first storage device based on the first identification signal for the first interface; identify a first amount of power provided to the first storage device from the first power supply unit; and transmit a second signal to the second power supply unit for providing a second amount of power to the first storage device based on the first amount of power and the first power requirement of the first storage device. 10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the first interface comprises a connector having a form factor. 11 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the first storage device comprises a solid state drive. 12 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the processor being configured to determine the first power requirement includes the processor being configured to: search a data structure for determining the first power requirement based on the first identification signal. 13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the data structure comprises a table associating the first identification signal to the first power requirement. 14 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to: detect that the second interface is connected to a second storage device; receive a second identification signal for the second interface; and determine a second power requirement of the second storage device based on the second identification signal for the second interface, wherein the first interface includes a first number of communication lanes, and the second interface includes a second number of communication lanes different from the first number. 15 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the first identification signal is based on status of one or more connections of the first interface. 16 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to: activate the second power supply unit for delivering the second amount of power to the first storage device.
