Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A unitary wellhead flow block lubricator assembly includes a unitary body and flow passageways that extend through the unitary body. Various openings on the exterior of the unitary body allow flow control devices to be mounted in the flow passageways to control the flow of fluid though the flow passageways. One or more of the control devices could be mountable in two or more orientations that alter the way in which the flow control device controls flow through one or more passageways in the unitary body. One or more choke mechanisms may also be mounted on the unitary body. The choke mechanisms may allow an operator to selectively adjust a flow of fluid through one or more of the passageways in the unitary body.

What is claimed is: 1 . A wellhead flow block lubricator assembly, comprising: a body configured to be attached to an outflow pipe or a master valve of a wellhead; a lower distribution block located within a lower portion of the body, the lower distribution block communicating with a first outflow passageway that extends from the lower distribution block to a first lower opening on a first side of the body; an upper distribution block located within an upper portion of the body, the upper distribution block communicating with a first upper passageway that extends from the upper distribution block to a first upper opening on the first side of the body; an inlet passageway extending through the body from a bottom of the body to the lower distribution block; a main passageway extending through the body from the lower distribution block to the upper distribution block, wherein the inlet passageway and the main passageway are aligned with each other; a first return passageway that extends through the body, the first return passageway having an upper end that opens into the first upper passageway and a lower end that opens into the first outflow passageway; and a first flow control device mounted in the first upper opening, the first flow control device comprising: a flange configured to be attached to the first side of the body, and a hollow pipe that extends from the flange, through the first upper opening and into the first upper passageway. 2 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 1 , wherein the hollow pipe of the flow control device includes a first flow aperture, and wherein the flow control device can be mounted on the body in a first orientation in which the first flow aperture is aligned with the first return passageway such that fluid can flow from the first upper passageway, though the first flow aperture and into the first return passageway or in a second orientation in which a closed wall portion of the hollow pipe is aligned with the first return passageway. 3 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 1 , wherein the hollow pipe of the flow control device includes a first flow aperture having a first diameter and a second flow aperture having a second diameter that is different from the first diameter, and wherein the flow control device can be mounted on the body in a first orientation in which the first flow aperture is aligned with the first return passageway such that fluid can flow from the first upper passageway, though the first flow aperture and into the first return passageway or in a second orientation in which the second flow aperture is aligned with the first return passageway such that fluid can flow from the first upper passageway, though the second flow aperture and into the first return passageway. 4 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 3 , wherein the hollow pipe of the flow control device further includes a third flow aperture having a third diameter that is different from the first diameter and the second diameter, and wherein the flow control device can be mounted on the body in a third orientation in which the third flow aperture is aligned with the first return passageway such that fluid can flow from the first upper passageway, though the third flow aperture and into the first return passageway. 5 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 4 , wherein the hollow pipe of the flow control device further includes a fourth flow aperture having a fourth diameter that is different from the first diameter, the second diameter and the third diameter, and wherein the flow control device can be mounted on the body in a fourth orientation in which the fourth flow aperture is aligned with the first return passageway such that fluid can flow from the first upper passageway, though the fourth flow aperture and into the first return passageway. 6 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 4 , wherein the hollow pipe of the flow control device can be mounted on the body in a fourth orientation in which a closed wall portion of the hollow pipe is aligned with the first return passageway. 7 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 1 , wherein a first access passageway is provided in the upper portion of the body, the first access passageway being aligned with the first return passageway. 8 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 7 , further comprising a flow restrictor plug that is removably mountable in the first access passageway such that a lower end of the flow restrictor plug extends into the first upper passageway. 9 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 1 , wherein the body further comprises: a second outflow passageway that extends from the lower distribution block to a second lower opening on a second side of the body; a second upper passageway that extends from the upper distribution block to a second upper opening on the second side of the body; a second return passageway that extends through the body from the second upper passageway to the second outflow passageway; and a second flow control device mounted in the second upper opening, the second flow control device comprising: a flange configured to be attached to the second side of the body, and a hollow pipe that extends from the flange, through the second upper opening and into the second upper passageway. 10 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 9 , wherein the hollow pipe of the second flow control device includes at least one flow aperture, and wherein the flow control device can be mounted on the body in a first orientation in which the at least one flow aperture is aligned with the second return passageway such that fluid can flow from the second upper passageway, though the at least one flow aperture and into the second return passageway. 11 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 10 , wherein the second flow control device can be mounted on the body in a second orientation in which a closed wall portion of the hollow pipe of the second flow control device is aligned with the second return passageway. 12 . The wellhead flow block lubricator of claim 9 , wherein the body further comprises: a third outflow passageway that extends from the lower distribution block toward a third side of the body; a third upper passageway that extends from the main passageway to a third upper opening on the third side of the body; a third return passageway that extends through the body from the third upper passageway to the third outflow passageway; and a third flow control device mounted in the third upper opening, the third flow control device comprising: a flange configured to be attached to the third side of the body, and a hollow pipe that extends from the flange, through the third upper opening and into the third upper passageway. 13 .
