Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A deposition device may deposit, on a substrate, a binder layer that includes a first set of magnetic flakes and a second set of magnetic flakes and may cause, when a temperature of the binder layer satisfies a temperature threshold (e.g., a Curie temperature of the first set of magnetic flakes), a magnetic field to be applied to the binder layer to cause the first set of magnetic flakes and the second set of magnetic flakes to be oriented according to the magnetic field. The deposition device may cause, when the temperature of the binder layer ceases to satisfy the temperature threshold, another magnetic field to be applied to the binder layer to cause only the second set of magnetic flakes to be oriented according to the other magnetic field.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method, comprising: depositing, by a deposition device and on a surface of a substrate, a binder layer that includes a plurality of magnetic flakes; applying, by the deposition device, a first magnetic field to the binder layer when a temperature of the binder layer satisfies a threshold, to cause the plurality of magnetic flakes to be oriented according to the first magnetic field; applying, by the deposition device, a second magnetic field to the binder layer when a temperature of at least a portion of the binder layer does not satisfy the threshold, to cause a subset of magnetic flakes, of the plurality of magnetic flakes, to be oriented according to the second magnetic field; and curing, by the deposition device, the binder layer. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein one or more magnetic flakes, of the plurality of magnetic flakes, are aligned with respective magnetic field lines of the first magnetic field after applying the first magnetic field to the binder layer. 3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: causing the portion of the binder layer to be heated, wherein the second magnetic field is applied to the binder layer after causing the portion of the binder layer to be heated. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the binder layer is a first portion of the binder layer, and wherein the subset of magnetic flakes are included in a second portion of the binder layer. 5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second magnetic field has different magnetic field lines than the first magnetic field. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subset of magnetic flakes are aligned with respective magnetic field lines of the second magnetic field based on applying the second magnetic field to the binder layer. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein magnetic field lines of the first magnetic field have an orthogonal orientation to magnetic field lines of the second magnetic field. 8 . A method, comprising: depositing, by a deposition device and on a surface of a substrate, a binder layer that includes a first set of magnetic flakes and a second set of magnetic flakes; applying, by the deposition device, a first magnetic field to the binder layer when a temperature of the binder layer satisfies a threshold temperature, to cause the first set of magnetic flakes and the second set of magnetic flakes to be oriented according to the first magnetic field; and applying, by the deposition device, a second magnetic field to the binder layer when the temperature of the binder layer does not satisfy the threshold temperature, to cause the second set of magnetic flakes to be oriented according to the second magnetic field. 9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising: curing the binder layer after applying the second magnetic field to the binder layer. 10 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising: causing the binder layer to be heated to a temperature higher than another threshold temperature; and curing the binder layer after causing the binder layer to be heated to the temperature higher than the other threshold temperature. 11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the first set of magnetic flakes are oriented according to the first magnetic field after applying the second magnetic field to the binder layer. 12 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising: causing the binder layer to be heated, wherein the second magnetic field is applied to the binder layer after causing the binder layer to be heated. 13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein magnetic field lines of the first magnetic field have an orthogonal orientation to magnetic field lines of the second magnetic field. 14 . The method of claim 8 , wherein depositing the binding layer comprises: depositing the binding layer using a technique to cause the first set of magnetic flakes and the second set of magnetic flakes to be oriented in parallel. 15 . A method, comprising: depositing, by a deposition device and on a substrate, a binder layer that includes a plurality of magnetic flakes; applying, by the deposition device, a first magnetic field to the binder layer when a temperature of the binder layer satisfies a threshold, to cause one or more first magnetic flakes, of the plurality of magnetic flakes, to align with one or more magnetic field lines of the first magnetic field; and applying, by the deposition device, a second magnetic field to the binder layer when a temperature of at least a portion of the binder layer does not satisfy the threshold, to cause one or more second magnetic flakes, of the plurality of magnetic flakes, to align with one or more magnetic field lines of the second magnetic field. 16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the one or more first magnetic flakes are aligned with the one or more magnetic field lines of the first magnetic field after applying the second magnetic field to the binder layer. 17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the one or more first magnetic flakes are associated with a first pigment, and wherein the one or more second magnetic flakes are associated with a second pigment. 18 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the one or more first magnetic flakes are associated with a first Curie temperature and the one or more second magnetic flakes are associated with a second Curie temperature. 19 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the one or more first magnetic flakes comprise a first material and the one or more second magnetic flakes comprise a second material. 20 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the one or more first magnetic flakes are located in a first region of the binder layer and the one or more second magnetic flakes are located in a second region of the binder layer.
