Techniques and devices for service-specific tagging of data by an application processor (AP) of a user equipment device (UE). A first indication may be sent from the UE to a baseband processor (BB) of the UE of one or more quality of service preferences for an upcoming data session, and the BB may configure one or more layers of the BB according to the quality of service preferences. The BB may further communicate with a network to establish protocols for the quality of service preferences. The BB may determine one or more network conditions, and may transmit feedback from the BB to the AP related to the determined network conditions. In response, the AP may send a second indication of one or more updated quality of service preferences to the BB based at least in part on the feedback received from the BB.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for operating a user equipment device (UE), comprising: establishing a first connection for a data flow, wherein the first connection utilizes a first 3 rd Generation Partnership Project ( 3 GPP) air interface; establishing a second connection for the data flow, wherein the second connection utilizes a second 3GPP air interface; determining whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy, wherein determining whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy is performed based on a number of active links per radio bearer and on a round trip time (RTT), wherein it is determined to not use redundancy to transmit the data flow when the RTT is greater than a threshold, wherein the redundancy comprises duplicating data packets using a multipath transmission control protocol (MPTCP) with two internet protocol (IP) interfaces, and wherein the duplication of data packets is performed above a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer; transmitting, based on the determination whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy, the data flow over at least one of the first connection and the second connection. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data flow is an IP data flow. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein data packets of the data flow for the first and second connections are duplicated by an application processor of the UE. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data flow is associated with a health care application executing on the UE. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein establishing the first and second connections for the data flow is performed responsive to a determination that the data flow is tagged with an ultra-reliable flag. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first connection and the second connection of the data flow are established before determining whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first air interface comprises a New Radio (NR) 3GPP air interface. 8. A user equipment device (UE), comprising: an antenna; a radio operably coupled to the antenna; and a processor operably coupled to the radio; wherein the antenna, radio, and processor are configured to: establish a first connection for a data flow, wherein the first connection utilizes a first 3 rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) air interface; establish a second connection for the data flow, wherein the second connection utilizes a second 3 GPP air interface; and determine whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy, wherein determining whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy is performed based on a number of active links per radio bearer and on a round trip time (RTT), wherein it is determined to not use redundancy to transmit the data flow when the RTT is greater than a threshold, wherein the redundancy comprises duplicating data packets using a multipath transmission control protocol (MPTCP) with two internet protocol (IP) interfaces, and wherein the duplication of data packets is performed above a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer; transmit, based on the determination whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy, the data flow over at least one of the first connection and the second connection. 9. The UE of claim 8 , wherein the data flow is an IP data flow. 10. The UE of claim 8 , wherein data packets of the data flow for the first and second connections are duplicated by an application processor of the UE. 11. The UE of claim 8 , wherein the data flow is associated with a health care application executing on the UE. 12. The UE of claim 8 , wherein establishing the first and second connections for the data flow is performed responsive to a determination that the data flow is tagged with an ultra-reliable flag. 13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first connection and the second connection of the data flow are established before determining whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy. 14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first air interface comprises a New Radio (NR) 3GPP air interface. 15. A computer-readable non-transitory memory medium comprising program instructions that, when executed by a processor of a user equipment device (UE), cause the UE to: initiate redundancy for a data flow, wherein in initiating the redundancy the program instructions are executable to cause the UE to: establish a first subflow in a first connection for the data flow, wherein the first connection utilizes a first 3 rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) air interface; establish a second subflow in a second connection for the data flow, wherein the second connection utilizes a second 3GPP air interface; determine whether to transmit the data flow using the redundancy, wherein determining whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy is performed based on a number of active links per radio bearer and on a round trip time (RTT), wherein it is determined to not use redundancy to transmit the data flow when the RTT is greater than a threshold, and wherein the duplication of data packets is performed above a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer; and transmit, based on the determination whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy, the data flow over at least one of the first connection and the second connection. 16. The computer-readable non-transitory memory medium of claim 15 , wherein the data flow is an internet protocol (IP) data flow. 17. The computer-readable non-transitory memory medium of claim 15 , wherein data packets of the data flow for the first and second connections are duplicated by an application processor of the UE. 18. The computer-readable non-transitory memory medium of claim 15 , wherein establishing the first and second connections for the data flow is performed responsive to a determination that the data flow is tagged with an ultra-reliable flag. 19. The computer-readable non-transitory memory medium of claim 15 , wherein the data flow is associated with a health care application executing on the UE. 20. The computer-readable non-transitory memory medium of claim 15 , wherein the first subflow and the second subflow are established before determining whether to transmit the data flow using redundancy.
