Thermoplastic bags with phased deformation patterns are described. In particular, one or more implementations comprise thermoplastic bags with ring rolling, SELFing, or other deformation patterns phased or aligned relative to the sides of the bags. The phased deformation patterns can allow for reducing or eliminating deformation patterns in areas of the thermoplastic bag in which side seals or other seals are formed. Additionally or alternatively, the phased deformation patterns can provide for zones that provide differing properties (e.g., functional or aesthetic). Such zones can vary aligned along a width of the thermoplastic bag and optionally also vary along a height of the thermoplastic bag. The differing zones can provide the thermoplastic bags with phased deformations that provide leak prevention, liquid containment, and other benefits.

We claim: 1. A pair of intermeshing rollers for creating phased deformations in thermoplastic bags, comprising: a first intermeshing roller comprises a first plurality of ridges and grooves extending radially outward in a direction orthogonal to an axis of rotation of the first intermeshing roller; and a second intermeshing roller comprises a second plurality of ridges and grooves extending radially outward in a direction orthogonal to an axis of rotation of the second intermeshing roller; wherein: the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller are sized and configured so that one revolution equals a width between respective side edges of the thermoplastic bags or a multiple of the width between the respective side edges of the thermoplastic bags; and the second intermeshing roller comprises a region that is devoid of the second plurality of ridges and grooves, wherein the region is sized and positioned so that contact between the second plurality of ridges and grooves and the thermoplastic bags is limited to a partial width between the respective side edges of the thermoplastic bags. 2. The pair of intermeshing rollers as recited in claim 1 , wherein the second intermeshing roller comprises a plurality of notches formed in the second plurality of ridges. 3. The pair of intermeshing rollers as recited in claim 2 , wherein the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller are sized and configured so passing a film through the pair of intermeshing rollers presses a portion of the film out of plane to cause permanent deformation of the portion of the film in a Z-direction thereby increasing an elasticity of the film. 4. The pair of intermeshing rollers as recited in claim 2 , wherein the first plurality of ridges and grooves and the second plurality of ridges and grooves are sized and configured to form a strainable network in a thermoplastic film passing between the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller. 5. The pair of intermeshing rollers as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller are sized and configured so that one revolution equals two times the width of the thermoplastic bags. 6. The pair of intermeshing rollers as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller are sized and configured so that one revolution equals the width of the thermoplastic bags. 7. The pair of intermeshing rollers as recited in claim 1 , wherein the second intermeshing roller comprises a second region that is devoid of the second plurality of ridges and grooves. 8. The pair of intermeshing rollers as recited in claim 1 , wherein the region extends a longitudinal length of the second intermeshing roller. 9. A system for producing thermoplastic bags with phased deformation, the system comprising: a first intermeshing roller comprising a first plurality of ridges and grooves extending radially outward in a direction orthogonal to an axis of rotation of the first intermeshing roller; a second intermeshing roller comprising a second plurality of ridges and grooves extending radially outward in a direction orthogonal to an axis of rotation of the second intermeshing roller; and a sealing mechanism comprising a heating device configured to form heat seals between respective bottom edges and top edges of the thermoplastic bags; wherein: the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller are sized and configured so that one revolution equals a width between respective side edges of the thermoplastic bags or a multiple of the width between the respective side edges of the thermoplastic bags; and the second intermeshing roller comprises a region that is devoid of the second plurality of ridges and grooves, wherein the region is sized and positioned so that contact between the region and the thermoplastic bags coincides with the heat seals between the respective bottom edges and top edges of the thermoplastic bags. 10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the second intermeshing roller comprises a plurality of notches formed in the second plurality of ridges. 11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller are sized and configured so passing a film between the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller presses a portion of the film out of plane to cause permanent deformation of the portion of the film in a Z-direction thereby increasing an elasticity of the film. 12. The system of claim of claim 10 , wherein the first plurality of ridges and grooves and the second plurality of ridges and grooves are sized and configured to form a strainable network in a thermoplastic film passing between the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller. 13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller are sized and configured so that one revolution equals two times the width of the thermoplastic bags. 14. The system of claim 9 , wherein the first intermeshing roller and the second intermeshing roller are sized and configured so that one revolution equals the width of the thermoplastic bags. 15. The system of claim 9 , wherein the second intermeshing roller comprises a second region that is devoid of the second plurality of ridges and grooves. 16. The system of claim 9 , wherein the region extends a longitudinal length of the second intermeshing roller.
