A syringe safety system may include a sleeve. The sleeve may include a guide track formed in the sleeve. The guide track may have a guide pin retention portion, a travel portion, and a lockout portion. The syringe safety system may include a collar having a guide from an exterior surface of the collar. A spring may extend between and be coupled to the collar and the sleeve. A cap may engage the sleeve. The cap may be configured to retain the guide pin in the guide pin retention portion of the guide track. When the cap is removed, the spring advances the guide pin into the travel portion of the guide track.

What is claimed is: 1. A sleeve for covering a needle, the sleeve comprising: a distal end; a proximal end; a guide track that is configured to receive a guide pin and limit movement of the guide pin, the guide track comprising a guide pin retention portion, a travel portion, and a lockout portion; and a seat configured to receive a cap, the cap being configured to cover the distal end of the sleeve, and the seat comprising a base and an edge that projects outwardly from the base and that bounds the base, wherein: the lockout portion extends, outwardly from an inner surface of the sleeve, less than an entire thickness of the sleeve, the travel portion extends through the entire thickness of the sleeve, the guide pin retention portion opens to the travel portion near the proximal end, the lockout portion and the guide pin retention portion are on opposite sides of the travel portion, and the guide pin retention portion defines an opening bounded by the edge of the seat, and the opening of the guide pin retention portion extends through an entire thickness of the base of the seat. 2. The sleeve of claim 1 , wherein the lockout portion comprises a capture portion and a channel portion that extends from the travel portion to the capture portion. 3. The sleeve of claim 2 , wherein the capture portion comprises a guide pin block configured to retain the guide pin inside the capture portion to prohibit relative movement of the sleeve and a collar supporting the guide pin. 4. The sleeve of claim 3 , wherein the travel portion of the guide track extends longitudinally along a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of the sleeve. 5. The sleeve of claim 3 , wherein the guide pin retention portion, when the cap is seated on the seat, receives a retention rib of the cap through the opening of the guide pin retention portion. 6. The sleeve of claim 3 , wherein the sleeve comprises two semi-circular portions. 7. The sleeve of claim 1 , wherein: a first part of the guide pin retention portion extends, outwardly from the inner surface of the sleeve, less than the entire thickness of the sleeve, and a second part of the guide pin retention portion, which is different from the first part, extends through the entire thickness of the sleeve. 8. The sleeve of claim 1 , further comprising an outer sleeve portion and an inner sleeve portion that is received within the outer sleeve portion. 9. The sleeve of claim 8 , wherein the guide track is defined by the outer sleeve portion and the inner sleeve portion. 10. The sleeve of claim 8 , wherein: the travel portion comprises an inner travel portion defined by the inner sleeve portion, and the travel portion comprises an outer travel portion defined by the outer sleeve portion. 11. The sleeve of claim 10 , wherein the guide pin retention portion, the inner travel portion, and the lockout portion extend through an entire thickness of the inner sleeve portion. 12. The sleeve of claim 8 , wherein: the outer sleeve portion comprises the edge of the seat, the edge defines a distal opening for receiving the cap, the inner sleeve portion comprises the base of the seat, and the base of the seat comprises a region of an outer surface of the inner sleeve portion bounded by the edge of the seat. 13. The sleeve of claim 12 , wherein: the seat comprises a proximal portion that is narrower than the distal opening, and the opening of the guide pin retention portion is aligned with the proximal portion of the seat. 14. The sleeve of claim 8 , wherein the inner sleeve portion and the outer sleeve portion are cylindrical. 15. The sleeve of claim 14 , wherein the inner sleeve portion extends distally beyond the outer sleeve portion. 16. A syringe system comprising: a syringe comprising a syringe hub and a cannula extending from the syringe hub; a collar comprising an inner collar coupled to the syringe hub and an outer collar rotatably coupled to the inner collar, the outer collar comprising a guide pin; a cap comprising a retention rib; a sleeve comprising: a guide track, the guide track comprising a guide pin retention portion, a travel portion, and a lockout portion; and a seat that receives the cap, the seat comprises a base and an edge that projects outwardly from the base and that bounds the base; and a compression spring coupled to the sleeve and the outer collar, wherein: the guide pin retention portion defines an opening bounded by the edge of the seat that extends through an entire thickness of the base of the seat, the retention rib, when the cap is seated on the seat, extends through the opening of the guide pin retention portion and abuts the guide pin in the guide pin retention portion, the sleeve, when the guide pin is located in the guide pin retention portion, extends over the cannula, the compression spring is configured to impart a torque on the collar and the sleeve to rotate the collar relative to the sleeve and advance the guide pin in the guide track in a guide pin biasing direction into the travel portion of the guide track to prevent movement of guide pin in a direction opposite to guide pin biasing direction, the lockout portion extends, outwardly from an inner surface of the sleeve, less than an entire thickness of the sleeve, and the travel portion extends the entire thickness of the sleeve. 17. The syringe system of claim 16 , wherein the lockout portion comprises a capture portion and a channel portion that extends from the travel portion to the capture portion. 18. The syringe system of claim 17 , wherein the capture portion comprises a guide pin block configured to retain the guide pin inside the capture portion to prohibit relative movement of the sleeve and the collar. 19. The syringe system of claim 16 , wherein the guide pin retention portion, when the cap is seated on the seat, receives the retention rib of the cap through the opening of the guide pin retention portion. 20. The syringe system of claim 16 , wherein the sleeve comprises two semi-circular portions.
