Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In the various embodiments, systems and methods are disclosed for determining the location of User Equipment (UE) in a network and for authorizing access to content based on said location. An aspect of the present disclosure is a method including receiving, by a Content Authorization Function (CAF), a request to provide a UE type of a UE and a physical location associated with the UE, the request including a UE Internet Protocol (IP) address associated with the UE; querying, by the CAF, a Network Function (NF), to provide the UE type and associated physical location, the query including the UE IP address; receiving, by the CAF from the NF, the UE type and associated physical location; and transmitting the UE type and associated physical location.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: receiving, over a network, information from a content provider, the information corresponding to a request for the content provider to provide content to user equipment (UE) at a location; communicating, over the network, the received information to a network function (NF) of the network; receiving, from the NF, UE information; mapping the UE information to the location; determining, based on the mapping, whether the UE is authorized to receive the content from the content provider; and communicating, over the network, information related to the determination to the content provider, the information controlling a mechanism of the content provider for responding to the UE. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: querying, over the network, the NF based on the received information; and identifying, based on the query, the UE information. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the UE information comprises information related to at least one of UE location information, an identifier (ID) of the UE and a type of the UE. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: modifying, based on the determination of UE authorization, a level of location granularity; and enabling, over the network, the content provider to provide the content to the UE based on the modified level of location granularity. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining that authorization for the UE is denied; and communicating, to the UE, a notification indicating the denial. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: providing, based on the determination, access to the content; and communicating, to the UE, a notification indicating authorization of the access. 7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: communicating, over the network, a request for content from the UE to the content provider. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request from the content provider comprises information related to an Internet Protocol (IP) address of the UE, wherein the IP address is associated with a service provider. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the received UE information is related to the service provider. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the UE is a fixed wireless access (FWA) device. 11. A network device comprising: a processor configured to: receive, over a network, information from a content provider, the information corresponding to a request for the content provider to provide content to user equipment (UE) at a location; communicate, over the network, the received information to a network function (NF) of the network; receive, from the NF, UE information; map the UE information to the location; determine, based on the mapping, whether the UE is authorized to receive the content from the content provider; and communicate, over the network, information related to the determination to the content provider, the information controlling a mechanism of the content provider for responding to the UE. 12. The network device of claim 11 , wherein the processor is further configured to: query, over the network, the NF based on the received information; and identify, based on the query, the UE information, wherein the UE information comprises information related to at least one of UE location information, an identifier (ID) of the UE and a type of the UE. 13. The network device of claim 11 , wherein the processor is further configured to: modify, based on the determination of UE authorization, a level of location granularity; and enable, over the network, the content provider to provide the content to the UE based on the modified level of location granularity. 14. The network device of claim 11 , wherein the request from the content provider comprises information related to an Internet Protocol (IP) address of the UE, wherein the IP address is associated with a service provider. 15. The network device of claim 14 , wherein the received UE information is related to the service provider. 16. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions executable by a processor, wherein the instructions are configured to: receive, over a network, information from a content provider, the information corresponding to a request for the content provider to provide content to user equipment (UE) at a location; communicate, over the network, the received information to a network function (NF) of the network; receive, from the NF, UE information; map the UE information to the location; determine, based on the mapping, whether the UE is authorized to receive the content from the content provider; and communicate, over the network, information related to the determination to the content provider, the information controlling a mechanism of the content provider for responding to the UE. 17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the processor is further configured to: query, over the network, the NF based on the received information; and identify, based on the query, the UE information, wherein the UE information comprises information related to at least one of UE location information, an identifier (ID) of the UE and a type of the UE. 18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the processor is further configured to: modify, based on the determination of UE authorization, a level of location granularity; and enable, over the network, the content provider to provide the content to the UE based on the modified level of location granularity. 19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the request from the content provider comprises information related to an Internet Protocol (IP) address of the UE, wherein the IP address is associated with a service provider. 20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the received UE information is related to the service provider.
