Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A cartridge for positioning within a pharmaceutical delivery device is described. The cartridge has a housing with a light pipe section which acts as a light pipe having an input location, and a light diffusing section optically coupled to the light pipe. The light diffusing section extends beyond a plane defined by the housing.

What is claimed is: 1. A cartridge configured to be received in a pharmaceutical delivery device comprising a housing, the cartridge comprising: a light pipe section that acts as a light pipe and that has an input location; and a light diffusing section optically coupled to the light pipe, wherein at least a portion of the light diffusing section extends outside of at least a portion of an outer surface of the housing. 2. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein when the input location is optically coupled to a light source, at least some light from the light source that enters the input location and is diffused at the light diffusing section. 3. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein a wall of the cartridge includes the light diffusing section. 4. The cartridge of claim 1 , further comprising a flange at a distal end of the cartridge, wherein the light diffusing section comprises the flange. 5. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the light diffusing section has a surface roughness to diffuse light. 6. The cartridge of claim 1 , further comprising at least one protruding element, wherein the light diffusing section comprises the at least one protruding element. 7. The cartridge of claim 6 , wherein the at least one protruding element at least partially surrounds an outer surface of the cartridge. 8. The cartridge of claim 6 , wherein the at least one protruding element comprises a plurality of protruding elements equidistantly spaced apart along a longitudinal axis of the cartridge. 9. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the light diffusing section comprises at least one circular bulge. 10. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the light diffusing section comprises at least one light diffusing slot. 11. A cartridge configured to be received in a pharmaceutical delivery device comprising a housing, the cartridge comprising: a light pipe section that acts as a light pipe and that has an input location; and a layer at least partially lining a surface of the cartridge, the layer optically coupled to the light pipe, and the layer being at least partially transparent. 12. The cartridge of claim 11 , wherein at least a portion of the layer includes an adhesive for attaching the layer onto the surface of the cartridge. 13. The cartridge of claim 11 , wherein the layer includes an indicia. 14. The cartridge of claim 11 , wherein the layer is configured to diffuse light having a wavelength associated with at least one visual perceptive property of the pharmaceutical. 15. The cartridge of claim 11 , wherein the layer is on an inner surface of the cartridge. 16. The cartridge of claim 11 , wherein the layer is on an outer surface of the cartridge. 17. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the housing defines a window, and the portion of the light diffusing section extends outside of window. 18. The cartridge of claim 17 , further comprising a dome that covers the portion of the light diffusing section that extends outside of the window. 19. A cartridge configured to be received in a pharmaceutical delivery device comprising a housing, the cartridge comprising: a light pipe section that acts as a light pipe and that has an input location; and a light diffusing section optically coupled to the light pipe, wherein the light diffusing section is made from the same material as the cartridge. 20. The cartridge of claim 19 , wherein at least a portion of the light diffusing section extends outside of at least a portion of an outer surface of the housing.
