Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder includes a main body, a power source, and a lighter portion. The main body defines an aerosol passageway, a proximal end and a distal end, and a receiving chamber configured to receive a substrate cartridge. The power source is located in the main body and is configured to power the lighter portion. The lighter portion is configured to ignite an ignitable heat source of the substrate cartridge and is integral with the main body.

The invention claimed is: 1. An aerosol delivery device comprising: a removable cartridge comprising an ignitable heat source and a substrate portion that includes a substrate material having an aerosol precursor composition configured to form an aerosol upon application of heat thereto from the heat source; and a holder comprising a main body defining a proximal end and a distal end, the main body further defining a receiving chamber configured to receive the substrate cartridge and an aerosol passageway that extends through at least a portion of the main body, a power source located in the main body, and a lighter portion that ignites the ignitable heat source, wherein the lighter portion is powered by the power source, wherein the lighter portion is integral with the main body, wherein the cartridge is removable and replaceable within the holder, wherein the removable cartridge further comprises an outer housing, and wherein the outer housing circumscribes the entire heat source and substrate material. 2. The aerosol delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the lighter portion comprises an inductive heating assembly. 3. The aerosol delivery device of claim 2 , wherein the lighter portion includes a resonant transmitter comprising an inductor coil located proximate at least a portion of the receiving chamber, wherein the heat source of the removable cartridge includes a susceptor material, and wherein the inductor coil is configured to heat the susceptor material of the heat source. 4. The aerosol delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the lighter portion comprises a conductive heating assembly. 5. The aerosol delivery device of claim 4 , wherein the lighter portion includes a heating contact located proximate at least a portion of the receiving chamber, and wherein the heating contact is configured to heat the heat source of the removable cartridge. 6. The aerosol delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the lighter portion is automatically activated when the removable cartridge is received in the receiving chamber. 7. The aerosol delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the lighter portion is activated via a button located on the holder. 8. The aerosol delivery device of claim 1 , further comprising an ejection mechanism configured to eject the removable cartridge from the receiving chamber. 9. The aerosol delivery device of claim 8 , wherein the ejection mechanism is activated by a button located on the holder. 10. The aerosol delivery device of claim 1 , further comprising a mouthpiece portion. 11. The aerosol delivery device of claim 10 , wherein the mouthpiece portion is integral with the main body. 12. The aerosol delivery device of claim 10 , wherein the mouthpiece portion is removable from the main body. 13. The aerosol delivery device of claim 1 , further comprising a removable outer sleeve configured to slide over the main body. 14. The aerosol delivery device of claim 12 , further comprising a removable outer sleeve that includes a first portion configured to slide over the main body and a second portion configured to slide over the mouthpiece portion.
