Official abstract text for this publication.
Provided in part herein are static-defeating apparatus for use in multipipettor systems. Multiple pipette tips can be retained by a static-defeating sheet of material. A multipipettor, having multiple pipettes or nozzles, can engage the pipette tips retained by the sheet. After use, the multipipettor can eject the pipette tips, which sometimes are ejected as a single unit due to the pipette tips being retained by the sheet. In certain embodiments, an apparatus includes a snap plate having one or more holes, and a base rack for ease of mounting.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for dispensing a liquid, said method comprising: engaging a plurality of nozzles of a dispensing device with a corresponding array of pipette tips, wherein each of the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips is adhered to a flexible sheet defining an array of holes, and wherein each of the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips is located, in part, within a corresponding hole of the array of holes in the flexible sheet; and drawing liquid into, and dispensing liquid from, the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips while the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips are in engagement with the plurality of nozzles; wherein the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips are sufficiently adhered to the flexible sheet when drawing the liquid into, and dispensing the liquid from, the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips to remain adhered to the flexible sheet upon certain flexion of the flexible sheet. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: Ejecting the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips from the plurality of nozzles after dispensing the liquid from the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips, wherein the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips ejected from the plurality of nozzles remain adhered to the flexible sheet upon the ejection of the array of pipette tips from the plurality of nozzles. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein: the flexible sheet comprises a first surface and a second surface opposing the first surface; the holes of the array of holes are through holes which extend through and between the first surface and the second surface; and each of the pipette tips in the array of pipette tips comprises an exterior surface, an interior surface, a first end, a first end terminus, a second end distal to the first end, a first end opening, and a second end opening distal to the first end opening. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein: the first end opening of each of the pipette tips of the array of pipette tips is concentric with a center of the corresponding hole of the array of holes of the flexible sheet. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein: a portion of the second surface of the flexible sheet circumscribes and at least partially defines each of the holes is in contact with the first end terminus of each corresponding pipette tip of the array of pipette tips. 6. The method of claim 3 , wherein: each of the holes of the array of holes in the flexible sheet comprises a hole edge and has a diameter or an effective diameter; the hole edge, or portion of the hole edge, of each of the holes of the array of holes in the flexible sheet is in engagement with at least a portion of the exterior surface of a corresponding pipette tip in the array of pipette tips; the diameter or effective diameter of each of the holes of the array of holes is less than an outer diameter of the exterior surface of the corresponding pipette tip with which the hole of the array of holes is engaged; and the hole edge of each of the holes of the array of holes provides an interference fit with the corresponding pipette tip of the array of pipette tips. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein: a difference between (a) the diameter or the effective diameter of each hole in the array of holes in the flexible sheet, and (b) a first opening diameter of each pipette tip in the array of pipette tips, is 0.01 inches or less. 8. The pipette tip tray of claim 7 , wherein: the difference is 0.003 inches or less. 9. The pipette tip tray of claim 8 , wherein: the difference is 0.001 inches or less. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein: the certain flexion of the flexible sheet includes a non-zero amount up to at least one inch of vertical deflection of a first edge of the flexible sheet from a second, opposing edge of the flexible sheet. 11. The pipette tip tray of claim 10 , wherein: the flexible sheet comprises a thickness at a portion of the flexible sheet defining one of the array of holes, and the thickness is 0.0001 inches to 0.25 inches. 12. The pipette tip tray of claim 11 , wherein: the thickness of the flexible sheet is a uniform thickness.
