Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving, over an uplink (UL) via a combination of coherent modular antenna arrays, first transmissions from a first user equipment (UE) and second transmissions from a second UE, wherein the first UE and the second UE are being served by the cell in multi-user (Mu)-multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) mode, determining, based on the first transmissions and the second transmissions, that a probability of the second UE interfering with the first UE in the UL satisfies a particular threshold, responsive to the determining, identifying an adjustment to an UL transmit power for the first UE, and causing the first UE to implement the adjustment to the UL transmit power. Other embodiments are disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1. A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system of a cell that utilizes a combination of coherent modular antenna arrays and includes a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising: receiving, over an uplink (UL) via the combination of coherent modular antenna arrays, first transmissions from a first user equipment (UE) and second transmissions from a second UE; determining, based on the first transmissions and the second transmissions, that a probability of the second UE interfering with the first UE in the UL satisfies a particular threshold, wherein the first transmissions are associated with a first signal strength, wherein the second transmissions are associated with a second signal strength, and wherein the determining that the probability of the second UE interfering with the first UE in the UL satisfies the particular threshold is based on detecting the second signal strength being greater than the first signal strength; and responsive to the determining, causing the first UE to increase an UL transmit power and causing orthogonal pilot sequences to be distributed to neighboring cells so as to reduce an impact of the increase on those neighboring cells. 2. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the first UE and the second UE are being served by the cell in multi-user (Mu)-multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) mode. 3. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the determining that the probability of the second UE interfering with the first UE in the UL satisfies the particular threshold is further based on detecting that a difference between the first signal strength and the second signal strength is greater than a certain threshold. 4. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the determining that the probability of the second UE interfering with the first UE in the UL satisfies the particular threshold is based on detecting the second signal strength being greater than the first signal strength by a certain threshold. 5. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise, responsive to the determining, identifying an adjustment to a second UL transmit power for the second UE. 6. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 5 , wherein the adjustment comprises a decrease to the second UL transmit power for the second UE. 7. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the first UE is located at or proximate to an edge of the cell, and wherein the second UE is located closer to the combination of coherent modular antenna arrays than the first UE. 8. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein communications between the combination of coherent modular antenna arrays and the first and second UEs are in frequency division duplex (FDD). 9. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein communications between the combination of coherent modular antenna arrays and the first and second UEs are in time division duplex (TDD). 10. The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the combination of coherent modular antenna arrays is operated in single-user (Su)-multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) mode for one or more other UEs. 11. A device, comprising: a processing system including a processor, wherein the processing system is communicatively coupled with a plurality of coherent modular antenna panels; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising: receiving, over an uplink (UL) via the plurality of coherent modular antenna panels, first signals from a first user equipment (UE) and second signals from a second UE; identifying, based on the first signals and the second signals, that a probability of the second UE interfering with the first UE in the UL satisfies a particular threshold, wherein the first signals are associated with a first signal strength, wherein the second signals are associated with a second signal strength, and wherein the identifying that the probability of the second UE interfering with the first UE in the UL satisfies the particular threshold is based on detecting that a difference between the first signal strength and the second signal strength is greater than a certain threshold; and based on the identifying, causing the first UE to increase an UL transmit power and causing orthogonal sounding reference signals (SRSs) to be distributed to neighboring cells so as to reduce an impact of the increase on those neighboring cells. 12. The device of claim 11 , wherein the identifying that the probability of the second UE interfering with the first UE in the UL satisfies the particular threshold is further based on detecting the second signal strength being greater than the first signal strength. 13. The device of claim 11 , wherein the first UE and the second UE are being served in multi-user (Mu)-multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) mode. 14. The device of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise, responsive to the identifying, determining an adjustment to a second UL transmit power for the second UE. 15. The device of claim 14 , wherein the adjustment comprises a decrease to the second UL transmit power for the second UE. 16. A method, comprising: receiving, by a processing system associated with an aggregation of coherent modular antenna arrays and including a processor, first signals from a first user equipment (UE) and second signals from a second UE; identifying, by the processing system, based on the first signals and the second signals, that the second UE is likely to interfere with the first UE in an uplink (UL); based on the identifying, determining, by the processing system, a first adjustment to a first UL transmit power for the first UE; and causing, by the processing system, the first UE to implement the first adjustment to the first UL transmit power, wherein the causing involves controlling UL transmit power parameters via an Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) interface and distribution of pilot sequences to neighboring cells so as to address an impact of the first adjustment to those neighboring cells. 17. The method claim 16 , wherein the first signals are associated with a first signal strength, wherein the second signals are associated with a second signal strength, and wherein the identifying that the second UE is likely to interfere with the first UE in the UL is based on detecting the second signal strength being greater than the first signal strength. 18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the first signals are associated with a first signal strength, wherein the second signals are associated with a second signal strength, and wherein the identifying that the second UE is likely to interfere with the first UE in the UL is based on detecting that a difference between the first signal strength and the second signal strength is greater than a threshold. 19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the first UE and the second UE are being served in multi-user (Mu)-multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) mode. 20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the aggregation of coherent modular antenna arrays is operated in single-user (Su)-MIMO mode for one or more other UEs.
