Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A suspension element includes a housing, a first joint, and a second joint. The housing is configured to couple a tractive element assembly to a vehicle. The housing has a first end configured to engage a portion of the vehicle and a second end configured to interface with the tractive element assembly. The first joint includes a first actuator and a first resilient member. The first actuator is configured to facilitate linear extension and retraction of the suspension element. The second joint includes a second actuator and a second resilient member. The second actuator is configured to facilitate rotational movement of the suspension element. The first resilient member and the second resilient member are configured to support a static load of the vehicle.

What is claimed is: 1. A vehicle, comprising: a chassis; a wheel hub; a tractive element coupled with the wheel hub; and a suspension system, comprising: a first extendable member coupled at a first end with the chassis and at a second end with the wheel hub; and a second extendable member coupled at a first end with the chassis and at a second end with the wheel hub; wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member are configured to extend cooperatively to adjust a ride height of the vehicle, or to extend independently to adjust a camber of the tractive element, wherein, in one or more positions of extension or retraction of the first extendable member and the second extendable member, the first extendable member and the second extendable member are substantially parallel with each other. 2. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the tractive element is rotatably coupled with the wheel hub. 3. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member are configured to extend or retract by operation of a plurality of actuators. 4. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the first extendable member, the wheel hub, the second extendable member, and the chassis define a four-bar linkage. 5. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member are configured to extend or retract to adjust a ride height of the vehicle up to 30 inches. 6. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member are telescoping members. 7. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the first extendable member is positioned closer to a ground surface than the second extendable member, wherein extension of the first extendable member and retraction of the second extendable member drives the camber of the tractive element to decrease. 8. A suspension assembly for a vehicle, the suspension assembly comprising: a wheel hub and a tractive element coupled with the wheel hub; a first extendable member coupled at a first end with a chassis and at a second end with the wheel hub; and a second extendable member coupled at a first end with the chassis and at a second end with the wheel hub; wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member are configured to extend cooperatively to adjust a ride height of the vehicle, or to extend independently to adjust a camber of the tractive element, wherein, in one or more positions of extension or retraction of the first extendable member and the second extendable member, the first extendable member and the second extendable member are substantially parallel with each other. 9. The suspension assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member are configured to extend or retract by operation of a plurality of actuators. 10. The suspension assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first extendable member, the second extendable member, the wheel hub, and the chassis define a four-bar linkage. 11. The suspension assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member are configured to extend or retract to adjust a ride height of the vehicle up to 30 inches. 12. The suspension assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member are telescoping members. 13. The suspension assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first extendable member is positioned closer to a ground surface than the second extendable member, wherein extension of the first extendable member and retraction of the second extendable member drives the camber of the tractive element to decrease. 14. The suspension assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member extend laterally outwards from the chassis. 15. A vehicle, comprising: a chassis; a first wheel hub and a first tractive element coupled with the first wheel hub; a second wheel hub and a second tractive element coupled with the second wheel hub; a first suspension assembly, comprising: a first extendable member coupled at a first end with the chassis and at a second end with the first wheel hub; and a second extendable member coupled at a first end with the chassis and at a second end with the first wheel hub; a second suspension assembly comprising: a third extendable member coupled at a first end with the chassis and at a second end with the second wheel hub; and a fourth extendable member coupled at a first end with the chassis and at a second end with the second wheel hub; wherein the first extendable member and the second extendable member of the first suspension assembly are configured to extend cooperatively to adjust a ride height of the vehicle, or to extend independently to adjust a camber of the first tractive element, wherein, in one or more positions of extension or retraction of the first extendable member and the second extendable member, the first extendable member and the second extendable member are substantially parallel with each other; wherein the third extendable member and the fourth extendable member of the second suspension assembly are configured to extend cooperatively to adjust the ride height of the vehicle or to extend independently to adjust a camber of the second tractive element; and wherein the first suspension assembly extends from a first lateral side of the chassis and the second suspension assembly extends from a second lateral side of the chassis. 16. The vehicle of claim 15 , wherein the first suspension assembly is configured to be operated independently of the second suspension assembly to raise or lower the first tractive element relative to the second tractive element. 17.
