What is claimed is: 1. A mat comprising: a body having a thickness defined between a first side and a second side; a lip extending from the body and having a thickness less than the thickness of the body, the lip having a plurality of ribs and a plurality of channels defined between adjacent ribs of the plurality of ribs; and a plurality of lip stiffeners arranged within the channels of the lip and defining a transverse rib extending in a direction perpendicular to a direction of the plurality of ribs. 2. The mat of claim 1 , wherein a first lip stiffener of the plurality of lip stiffeners has a first width and a second lip stiffener of the plurality of lip stiffeners has a second width that is less than the first width. 3. The mat of claim 1 , wherein each lip stiffener has a height that is less than or equal to a height of the plurality of ribs of the lip. 4. The mat of claim 1 , wherein the transverse rib extends entirely across the lip in a direction away from the body. 5. The mat of claim 1 , comprising a plurality of said transverse ribs wherein each transverse rib is formed of a respective plurality of lip stiffeners. 6. The mat of claim 2 , wherein the transverse rib is a first transverse rib and a second transverse rib is arranged within the channels of the lip, wherein the first transverse is positioned closer to an end of the lip than the second transverse rib. 7. The mat of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of transverse ribs comprise a first transverse rib and a second transverse rib arranged within the channels of the lip, wherein the first transverse rib and the second transverse rib are arranged proximate an end of the lip. 8. The mat of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of transverse ribs are distributed along a length of the lip. 9. The mat of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of transverse ribs comprises a first transverse rib and a second transverse rib arranged adjacent to the first transverse rib and separated by a separation distance. 10. The mat of claim 3 , wherein the separation distance is equal to or greater than a width of a lip stiffener. 11. The mat of claim 1 , wherein the body has a width direction defined between a first edge and a second edge and length direction defined between a third edge and a fourth edge, wherein the lip extends in the length direction along the first edge and the transverse rib extends in the width direction. 12. The mat of claim 11 , wherein the transverse rib is a first transverse rib and a second transverse rib is arranged within the channels of the lip, wherein the first transverse rib is positioned closer to an end of the lip than the second transverse rib in the length direction. 13. The mat of claim 11 , wherein the transverse rib is a first transverse rib and a second transverse rib is arranged within the channels of the lip, wherein the first transverse rib and the second transverse rib are arranged proximate an end of the lip. 14. A mat comprising: a body of the mat having a thickness defined between a first side and a second side and defining a thickness direction; and a lip extending from the body and having a thickness in the thickness direction less than the thickness of the body, the lip having a plurality of ribs and a first channel, wherein the plurality of ribs comprise a first rib having a first thickness in the thickness direction and a second rib having a second thickness in the thickness direction, and the first channel has a third thickness in the thickness direction, wherein the first thickness and the second thickness are each greater than the third thickness such that a void is formed at the first channel between the first rib and the second rib. 15. The mat of claim 14 , further comprising: a plurality of interconnected web members extending within the body, a first interconnected web member joined to a second interconnected web member at a first node, and a third interconnected web member joined to the second interconnected web member at a second node, wherein a first fortifying member is positioned at the first node and a second fortifying member is positioned at the second node, and further wherein the first fortifying member and the second fortifying member are enlarged with respect to the first, second and third interconnected web members. 16. The mat of claim 14 , wherein the body of the mat has a width defined between a first edge and a second edge and defining a width direction, and a length defined between a third edge and a fourth edge and defining a length direction, the mat further comprising: a lip stiffener extending in the width direction across the first channel and within the void. 17. The mat of claim 16 , further comprising: a third rib having a fourth thickness greater than the third thickness in the thickness direction; and a second channel having a fifth thickness in the thickness direction that is less than the first thickness, the second thickness, and the fourth thickness, and defining a second void between the second rib and the third rib, wherein the lip stiffener extends across the first channel and the second channel. 18. The mat of claim 16 , wherein the lip stiffener includes a first end having a first width and a second end having a second width less than the first width. 19. The mat of claim 16 , wherein the lip stiffener is located proximate an end of the lip in the length direction. 20. The mat of claim 16 , wherein the lip stiffener is located proximate an end of the lip in the width direction.
