A treatment couch with a localization array is described.
Opening claim text (preview).
What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus, comprising: a treatment couch having a surface to support a patient and comprising encoders to determine a position of the treatment couch within a treatment room; a localization array comprising at least one electromagnetic transmitter, and at least one electromagnetic receiver, wherein the localization array is configured to detect a position of one or more fiducial markers relative to the treatment couch and, based on the position of the treatment couch, a position of the one or more fiducial markers relative to the treatment room; and a positioning device including an arm, operatively coupled with the localization array, wherein the arm is rotatable about a z-axis to move the localization array underneath the surface of the treatment couch along an x-axis and a y-axis. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the treatment couch is a robotic couch. 3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the treatment couch has at least five degrees of freedom of movement. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one electromagnetic receiver includes at least one receiver coil and the at least one electromagnetic transmitter includes at least one transmitter coil. 5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the localization array is covered. 6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the localization array is centered within the treatment couch with respect to a width or a length of the treatment couch. 7. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising an additional localization array being either integrated within or coupled to the treatment couch. 8. An apparatus, comprising: a treatment couch having a surface to support a patient and comprising positional encoders to determine a position of the treatment couch within a treatment room; a localization array comprising at least one electromagnetic transmitter, and at least one electromagnetic receiver, wherein the localization array is configured to detect a position of one or more fiducial markers relative to the treatment couch, and based on the position of the treatment couch, a position of the one or more fiducial markers relative to the treatment room; and a positioning apparatus, coupled with the localization array, wherein the positioning apparatus is rotatable about a z-axis to move the localization array underneath and parallel to the surface of the treatment couch along an x-axis and a y-axis. 9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the positioning apparatus is further configured to allow positioning of the localization array beyond an imaging field of an imaging device. 10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the treatment couch is a robotic couch. 11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the treatment couch has at least five degrees of freedom of movement. 12. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising a mechanical arm coupled to the localization array and configured to move the localization array independently of the treatment couch. 13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one electromagnetic receiver includes at least one receiver coil and the at least one electromagnetic transmitter includes at least one transmitter coil. 14. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising an electromagnetic tracking system operatively coupled with the localization array.
