This disclosure generally relates to perforated filter media and coalescing filter elements utilizing perforated filter media. One example coalescing filter element is structured to separate a dispersed phase from a continuous phase of a mixture. The filter media includes a first coalescing layer. The first coalescing layer includes a first filter media. The first filter media has a plurality of pores and a first perforation. Each of the plurality of pores is smaller than the first perforation. The first perforation is formed in the first filter media and extends through the first filter media. The plurality of pores are structured to capture a portion of the dispersed phase. The first perforation is structured to facilitate the transmission of coalesced drops of the dispersed phase through the first coalescing layer such that the coalesced drops of the dispersed phase are separated from the portion of the dispersed phase captured in the first coalescing layer.

What is claimed is: 1. A filter element comprising: a top endplate; a bottom endplate; a first filter media positioned between the top endplate and the bottom endplate, the first filter media being pleated; a second filter media positioned between the top endplate and the bottom endplate, the second filter media being non-perforated and non-pleated; and a third filter media positioned between the top endplate and the bottom endplate, the third filter media being non-pleated and comprising: a plurality of pores, and a perforation positioned proximate an edge of the third filter media, the perforation being larger than each of the pores, the perforation formed as a hole in the third filter media; wherein the second filter media is positioned between the first filter media and the third filter media. 2. The filter element of claim 1 , further comprising a support positioned between the first filter media and the second filter media. 3. The filter element of claim 1 , wherein: the first filter media surrounds the second filter media; and the second filter media surrounds the third filter media. 4. The filter element of claim 3 , wherein: the first filter media is cylindrical; the second filter media is cylindrical; and the third filter media is cylindrical. 5. The filter element of claim 4 , further comprising a support positioned between the first filter media and the second filter media. 6. The filter element of claim 1 , further comprising a fourth filter media positioned between the second filter media and the third filter media, the fourth filter media being non-pleated and non-perforated. 7. The filter element of claim 6 , further comprising a support positioned between the first filter media and the second filter media. 8. The filter element of claim 6 , further comprising a support positioned between the first filter media and the second filter media. 9. The filter element of claim 8 , wherein a first portion of the fourth filter media is separated from a first portion of the third filter media. 10. The filter element of claim 9 , wherein a second portion of the fourth filter media is in contact with a second portion of the third filter media. 11. The filter element of claim 10 , wherein the second portion of the fourth filter media is bonded with the second portion of the third filter media. 12. The filter element of claim 11 , further comprising a support positioned between the first filter media and the second filter media. 13. The filter element of claim 1 , wherein a first portion of the second filter media is separated from a first portion of the third filter media. 14. The filter element of claim 13 , wherein a second portion of the second filter media is in contact with a second portion of the third filter media. 15. The filter element of claim 14 , wherein the second portion of the second filter media is bonded with the second portion of the third filter media. 16. A method of filtering a fluid using a filter element, the method comprising: passing the fluid through a first filter media of the filter element, the first filter media positioned between a top endplate of the filter element and a bottom endplate of the filter element, the first filter media being pleated; passing the fluid through a second filter media of the filter element after passing the fluid through the first filter media, the second filter media positioned between the top endplate and the bottom endplate, the second filter media being non-perforated and non-pleated; and passing the fluid through a third filter media of the filter element after passing the fluid through the second filter media, the third filter media positioned between the top endplate and the bottom endplate, the third filter media being non-pleated and comprising a plurality of pores and a perforation positioned proximate an edge of the third filter media, the perforation being larger than each of the pores, the perforation formed as a hole in the third filter media. 17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising providing, due to gravity, filtered fluid in a region of a housing between the second filter media and the third filter media that is adjacent to the perforation. 18. A method of filtering a fluid using a filter element, the method comprising: passing the fluid through a first filter media of the filter element, the first filter media positioned between a top endplate of the filter element and a bottom endplate of the filter element, the first filter media being non-pleated and comprising a plurality of pores and a perforation positioned proximate an edge of the first filter media, the perforation being larger than each of the pores, the perforation formed as a hole in the first filter media; passing the fluid through a second filter media of the filter element after passing the fluid through the first filter media, the second filter media positioned between the top endplate and the bottom endplate, the second filter media being non-perforated and non-pleated; and passing the fluid through a third filter media of the filter element after passing the fluid through the second filter media, the third filter media positioned between the top endplate and the bottom endplate, the third filter media being pleated; providing, due to gravity, filtered fluid in a region of a housing between the first filter media and the second filter media that is adjacent to the perforation.
