Official abstract text for this publication.
An agricultural machine includes a seeding system having a seed meter configured to meter seed, a seed meter sensor configured to generate a sensor signal indicative of movement of the seed meter, and an assistive seed transport mechanism configured to receive the metered seed from the seed meter and to transport the metered seed along a delivery path. A control system is configured to determine a position of the seed in the assistive seed transport mechanism based on the sensor signal, and generate a control signal to control the agricultural machine based on the determined position of the seed.

What is claimed is: 1. An agricultural machine comprising: a seed meter configured to meter seeds; an active seed transport mechanism configured to transport the seeds; a seed sensor configured to: sense seed presence in one or more of the seed meter or the active seed transport mechanism; and generate a seed signal indicating the seed presence; a drive mechanism configured to drive one or more of the seed meter or the active seed transport mechanism to transport the seeds along a transport route to a release point at which the seeds are released to a field; and a processing system configured to: generate a tracked position of the seed along the transport route based on the seed signal and an indication of movement of the active seed transport mechanism; receive an indication of a travel speed of the agricultural machine over the field; and generate an output comprising an indication of locations of the seeds in the field based on the tracked position of the seed and the travel speed of the agricultural machine. 2. The agricultural machine of claim 1 , wherein the indication of locations of the seeds comprises estimated locations of the seeds in the field based on a release time of the seeds from the agricultural machine. 3. The agricultural machine of claim 1 , wherein the indication of locations of the seeds comprises a representation of actual planting locations of the seeds in the field. 4. The agricultural machine of claim 3 , wherein the indication of locations of the seeds comprises a planting map of the field. 5. The agricultural machine of claim 4 , wherein the processing system is configured to generate the indication of locations of the seeds based on a position of the seed in the active seed transport mechanism and the movement of the active seed transport mechanism. 6. The agricultural machine of claim 5 , wherein the drive mechanism comprises a rotating element configured to drive the active seed transport mechanism. 7. The agricultural machine of claim 6 , wherein the rotating element comprises a drive shaft, and wherein the position of the seed in the active seed transport mechanism is correlated to an angular position of the drive shaft. 8. The agricultural machine of claim 7 , wherein the processing system is configured to determine, for each respective seed of the seeds, that the respective seed has been released from the active seed transport mechanism based on a threshold angular rotation of the drive shaft. 9. The agricultural machine of claim 1 , wherein the active seed transport mechanism comprises at least one of: a brush belt, or a flighted belt. 10. A method comprising: generating a seed signal indicating presence of seed in one or more of a seed meter or a active seed transport mechanism on an agricultural machine; operating one or more of the seed meter or the active seed transport mechanism to transport the seeds along a transport route to a release point at which the seeds are released to a field; generating a tracked position of the seed along the transport route based on the seed signal and an indication of movement of the active seed transport mechanism; receiving an indication of a travel speed of the agricultural machine over the field; and generating an output comprising an indication of locations of the seeds in the field based on the tracked position of the seed and the travel speed of the agricultural machine. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the indication of locations of the seeds comprises estimated locations of the seeds in the field based on a release time of the seeds from the agricultural machine. 12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the indication of locations of the seeds comprises a representation of actual planting locations of the seeds in the field. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the indication of locations of the seeds comprises a planting map of the field. 14. The method of claim 13 , and further comprising: generating the indication of locations of the seeds based on a position of the seed in the active seed transport mechanism and the movement of the active seed transport mechanism. 15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the one or more of the seed meter or the active seed transport mechanism comprises a rotating element configured to drive the one or more of the seed meter or the active seed transport mechanism. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the rotating element comprises a drive shaft, and further comprising: correlating the position of the seed in the active seed transport mechanism to an angular position of the drive shaft. 17. The method of claim 16 , and further comprising: determining, for each respective seed of the seeds, that the respective seed has been released from the active seed transport mechanism based on a threshold angular rotation of the drive shaft. 18. The method of claim 10 , wherein the active seed transport mechanism comprises at least one of: a brush belt, or a flighted belt. 19. A control system for an agricultural machine, the control system comprising: at least one processor; and memory storing instructions executable by the at least one processor, wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the control system to: receive a seed signal indicating presence of seed in one or more of a seed meter or a active seed transport mechanism; operate one or more of the seed meter or the active seed transport mechanism to transport the seeds along a transport route to a release point at which the seeds are released to a field; generate a tracked position of the seed along the transport route based on the seed signal and an indication of movement of the active seed transport mechanism; receive an indication of a travel speed of the agricultural machine over the field; and generate an output comprising an indication of locations of the seeds in the field based on the tracked position of the seed and the travel speed of the agricultural machine. 20. The control system of claim 19 , wherein the indication of locations of the seeds comprises a planting map of the field.
