A hockey puck is disclosed including an internal signal transmitter enabling instantaneous identification of its position as it moves around. The puck includes two molded subcomponents, which encapsulate the signal transmitter. The signal transmitter includes driver electronics and a number of signal transmitters which together generate and emit an electromagnetic signal. The electromagnetic signal is emitted by a plurality of diodes mounted in light pipes enclosed within cavities in the subcomponents that extend to outer surfaces of the hockey puck components. The puck includes two subcomponents that are attached via complimentary sets of concentrically arranged wedges.

The invention claimed is: 1. A hockey puck, comprising: a first subcomponent, including a first interior surface, attached to a second subcomponent, including a second interior surface, wherein the first interior surface and the second interior surface define an interior void; a signal transmitter operable to generate and emit electromagnetic radiation, wherein the signal transmitter includes at least one power source and at least one diode; and a capsule enclosing the signal transmitter, wherein the capsule is sized to fit within the interior void; wherein the electromagnetic radiation from the signal transmitter is configured to be received by a plurality of external sensors; wherein the first interior surface includes a first set of ridges and a first set of valleys, and wherein the second interior surface includes a second set of ridges and a second set of valleys; wherein the first set of ridges are constructed to receive the second set of valleys, and wherein the first set of valleys are constructed to receive the second set of ridges; wherein the capsule is comprised of two identical sub-capsule halves, including a plurality of axially extending light pipes; wherein the first interior surface includes at least one first curved depression along a first outer radius of the first subcomponent extending from a first outer circumference of the first subcomponent to the interior void and the second interior surface includes at least one second curved depression along a second outer radius of the second subcomponent extending from a second outer circumference of the second subcomponent to the interior void; and wherein, when the first subcomponent and the second subcomponent are combined, the at least one first curved depression and the at least one second curved depression define channels for at least one radially extending light pipe extending from an outer circumference of the puck to the interior void. 2. The hockey puck of claim 1 , wherein the first set of ridges and the first set of valleys and the second set of ridges and the second set of valleys are arranged in concentric rows of alternating ridges and valleys around a center of the puck. 3. The hockey puck of claim 1 , wherein the first interior surface and the second interior surface further include indentations sized to receive at least one sensor and at least one antenna of the signal transmitter. 4. The hockey puck of claim 1 , wherein the at least one radially extending light pipe and the plurality of axially extending light pipes are sized to receive the at least one diode of the signal transmitter. 5. The hockey puck of claim 1 , wherein the first set of ridges, the first set of valleys, the second set of ridges, and/or the second set of valleys are sandblasted and/or chemically etched. 6. The hockey puck of claim 1 , wherein the first subcomponent and the second subcomponent each include a plurality of through-thickness holes configured to receive the plurality of axially extending light pipes. 7. The hockey puck of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of axially extending light pipes are integrally formed with the two identical sub-capsule halves. 8. A hockey puck, comprising: a first subcomponent, including a first interior surface, attached to a second subcomponent, including a second interior surface, wherein the first interior surface and the second interior surface define an interior void; a signal transmitter operable to generate and emit electromagnetic radiation, wherein the signal transmitter includes at least one power source and at least one diode; and a capsule enclosing the signal transmitter, wherein the capsule is sized to fit within the interior void; wherein the electromagnetic radiation from the signal transmitter is configured to be received by one or more external sensors; wherein the first interior surface includes a first set of concentrically arranged wedges and the second interior surface includes a second set of concentrically arranged wedges; wherein the first set of concentrically arranged wedges and the second set of concentrically arranged wedges each include concentric rows of alternating peaks and valleys around a center of the puck; wherein peaks of the first set of concentrically arranged wedges are constructed to fit into valleys of the second set of concentrically arranged wedges of the second interior surface; wherein the capsule is comprised of two identical sub-capsule halves, each including a plurality of axially extending light pipes; wherein the first interior surface includes at least one first curved depression along a first outer radius of the first subcomponent extending from a first outer circumference of the first subcomponent to the interior void and the second interior surface includes at least one second curved depression along a second outer radius of the second subcomponent extending from a second outer circumference of the second subcomponent to the interior void; wherein, when the first subcomponent and the second subcomponent are combined, the at least one first curved depression and the at least one second curved depression define channels for at least one radially extending light pipe extending from an outer circumference of the puck to the interior void. 9. The hockey puck of claim 8 , wherein the first subcomponent and the second subcomponent include through-thickness holes for the plurality of axially extending light pipes. 10. The hockey puck of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of axially extending light pipes extend from the first interior surface of the first subcomponent to an exterior surface of the first subcomponent or from the second interior surface of the second subcomponent to an exterior surface of the second subcomponent. 11. The hockey puck of claim 8 , wherein the interior void is sized to securely contain the signal transmitter and at least one power source. 12. The hockey puck of claim 8 , wherein the first subcomponent and/or the second subcomponent include one or more weep holes. 13. The hockey puck of claim 8 , wherein the first subcomponent and the second subcomponent are attached with an adhesive material applied to the first set of concentrically arranged wedges and the second set of concentrically arranged wedges. 14. The hockey puck of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of axially extending light pipes are integrally formed with the two identical sub-capsule halves. 15. A hockey puck, comprising: a first subcomponent, including a first interior surface, attached to a second subcomponent, including a second interior surface, wherein the first interior surface and the second interior surface define an interior void; a signal transmitter operable to generate and emit electromagnetic radiation, further comprising at least one diode; a capsule enclosing the signal transmitter, wherein the capsule is sized to fit within the interior void; and at least one power source for powering the signal transmitter, wherein the electromagnetic radiation from the signal transmitter is configured to be received by a plurality of external sensors; wherein the first interior surface includes a first set of concentrically arranged wedges which are arranged complementary to a second set of concentrically arranged wedges of the second interior surface, and wherein peaks of the first set of concentrically arranged wedges of the first interior surface are constructed to fit into valleys of the second set of concentrically arranged wedges of the second interior surface; wherein the first set of concentrically arranged wedges and the second set of concentrically arranged wedges each i
