Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A building manager includes a communications interface configured to receive time-of-use information from a smart energy grid and a processing circuit configured to process the time-of-use information received from the smart energy grid to generate load shedding decisions for building subsystems or devices including determining when to utilize energy from energy storage equipment. The processing circuit is configured to determine an amount of greenhouse gas emissions corresponding to the load shedding decisions and convert the amount of greenhouse gas emissions into tradable carbon credits. The processing circuit is configured to generate a graphical user interface including modules indicating the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, the tradable carbon credits, or energy savings resulting from the load shedding decisions. The processing circuit is configured to rearrange, resize, or reconfigure the modules or change the modules for different modules in response to a user input or selection provided via the graphical user interface.

The building manager of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to receive inputs from the plurality of building subsystems or devices comprising amounts of energy consumption associated with the plurality of building subsystems or devices and generate the load shedding decisions based on the amounts of energy consumption. 3. The building manager of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to use the load shedding decisions to generate control signals for the plurality of building subsystems or devices and provide the control signals as outputs to the plurality of building subsystems or devices. 4. The building manager of claim 1 , wherein the smart energy grid comprises at least one of (a) one or more energy meters configured to provide time-varying energy use information for the plurality of building subsystems or devices or (b) one or more energy providers or purchasers configured to provide time-varying energy pricing information to the communications interface. 5. The building manager of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to provide information about the tradable carbon credits to a remote system or device via the communications interface. 6. The building manager of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to receive at least one of a trade offer message or a trade confirmation message from a remote system or device via the communications interface and complete a transaction with the remote system or device using the tradable carbon credits. 7. The building manager of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to validate at least one of an energy consumption measurement or the amount of greenhouse gas emissions against data received from another calculation or source. 8. The building manager of claim 1 , wherein generating the load shedding decisions for the plurality of building subsystems or devices comprise at least one of (a) optimizing electrical demand based on the time-of-use information, (b) optimizing an energy transaction with the smart energy grid, or (c) optimizing a transaction of the tradable carbon credits. 9. A method comprising: receiving time-of-use information from a smart energy grid at a communications interface; processing the time-of-use information received from the smart energy grid to generate load shedding decisions for a plurality of building subsystems or devices comprising determining when to utilize energy from energy storage equipment, determine an amount of greenhouse gas emissions corresponding to the load shedding decisions, and convert the amount of greenhouse gas emissions into tradable carbon credits; generating a graphical user interface comprising one or more modules indicating the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, the tradable carbon credits, or energy savings resulting from the load shedding decisions for the plurality of building subsystems or devices; and rearranging, resizing, or reconfiguring the one or more modules or changing the one or more modules for different modules in response to a user input or selection provided via the graphical user interface. 10. The method of claim 9 , comprising receiving inputs from the plurality of building subsystems or devices comprising amounts of energy consumption associated with the plurality of building subsystems or devices and generating the load shedding decisions based on the amounts of energy consumption. 11. The method of claim 9 , comprising using the load shedding decisions to generate control signals for the plurality of building subsystems or devices and provide the control signals as outputs to the plurality of building subsystems or devices. 12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the smart energy grid comprises at least one of (a) one or more energy meters configured to provide time-varying energy use information for the plurality of building subsystems or devices or (b) one or more energy providers or purchasers configured to provide time-varying energy pricing information to the communications interface. 13. The method of claim 9 , comprising providing information about the tradable carbon credits to a remote system or device via the communications interface. 14. The method of claim 9 , comprising receiving at least one of a trade offer message or a trade confirmation message from a remote system or device via the communications interface and completing a transaction with the remote system or device using the tradable carbon credits. 15. The method of claim 9 , comprising validating at least one of an energy consumption measurement or the amount of greenhouse gas emissions against data received from another calculation or source. 16. The method of claim 9 , wherein generating the load shedding decisions for the plurality of building subsystems or devices comprise at least one of (a) optimizing electrical demand based on the time-of-use information, (b) optimizing an energy transaction with the smart energy grid, or (c) optimizing a transaction of the tradable carbon credits. 17. A building manager comprising: a communications interface configured to receive time-of-use information from a smart energy grid; a database storing an ontology comprising representations of relationships between a plurality of building spaces and a plurality of building subsystems or devices; and a processing circuit configured to process the time-of-use information received from the smart energy grid to generate load shedding decisions for the plurality of building subsystems or devices using the ontology; wherein the processing circuit is configured to generate a graphical user interface comprising one or more modules indicating the load shedding decisions for the plurality of building subsystems or devices; wherein the processing circuit is configured to rearrange, resize, or reconfigure the one or more modules or change the one or more modules for different modules in response to a user input or selection provided via the graphical user interface. 18.
