A custom tool for forming a dental restoration in a mouth of a patient includes a first mold body providing for a customized fit with at least one tooth of the patient. The first mold body includes a portion corresponding with at least a first surface of the tooth and an interproximal portion corresponding with an interproximal surface of the tooth, the interproximal portion being of unitary construction. The first mold body is configured to combine with the tooth of the patient to form a mold cavity encompassing a first portion of missing tooth structure of the tooth.

What is claimed is: 1. A custom tool for forming a dental restoration in a mouth of a patient, the custom tool comprising: a mold body providing for a customized fit with at least one tooth of the patient, the mold body including an occlusal portion forming an occlusal surface corresponding with an occlusal surface of the tooth or an incisal portion corresponding with an incisal surface of the tooth, a mesial proximal portion forming a mesial proximal surface corresponding with a mesial proximal surface of the tooth, and a distal proximal portion forming a distal proximal surface corresponding with a distal proximal surface of the tooth, wherein the mold body is configured to combine with the tooth of the patient to form a mold cavity encompassing missing tooth structure of the tooth, and wherein the mesial proximal portion, the distal proximal portion, and at least one of the occlusal portion or the incisal portion are based on three-dimensional scan data of the mouth of the patient, and wherein the mesial proximal portion or the distal proximal portion extend subgingivally. 2. The custom tool of claim 1 , wherein the custom tool is configured to retract the gingiva from the tooth for the dental restoration. 3. The custom tool of claim 1 , wherein the mesial proximal portion or the distal proximal portion that extends subgingivally assists in isolating the dental restoration. 4. The custom tool of claim 1 , wherein the occlusal portion, the mesial proximal portion and the distal proximal portion are all customized to fit around a tooth receiving the dental restoration. 5. The custom tool of claim 1 , wherein the mold body further comprises a gingival surface configured to provide a barrier against blood, saliva, or other fluids during the dental restoration. 6. The custom tool of claim 1 , wherein a material of the dental restoration is configured to cure within the mold cavity to form a seamless transition between existing tooth structure and restored portions. 7. The custom tool of claim 1 , wherein the mold body includes a venting structure to allow excess dental restoration material to escape during a filling process. 8. The custom tool of claim 1 , wherein the mold cavity further includes structural reinforcement features to maintain a shape and fit during a curing process. 9. A custom tool for forming a dental restoration in a mouth of a patient, the custom tool comprising: a mold body providing for a customized fit with at least one tooth of the patient, the mold body including a mesial proximal portion forming a mesial proximal surface corresponding with a mesial proximal surface of the tooth, a distal proximal portion forming a distal proximal surface corresponding with a distal proximal surface of the tooth, and a gingival portion configured to retract the gingiva from the tooth, wherein the mold body is configured to combine with the tooth to form a mold cavity encompassing missing tooth structure of the tooth, and wherein the mesial proximal portion, the distal proximal portion, and the gingival portion are customized based on three-dimensional scan data of the mouth of the patient. 10. The custom tool of claim 9 , wherein the gingival portion comprises a hydrophilic material to aid in retracting gingiva and isolating the tooth during a restoration process. 11. The custom tool of claim 9 , wherein the mesial proximal portion, the distal proximal portion, and the gingival portion form a continuous surface around the tooth, providing a seamless mold cavity. 12. The custom tool of claim 9 , wherein the mold body further includes features for mating with supporting structures that stabilize the mold body during a dental restoration procedure. 13. The custom tool of claim 9 , wherein a mesial proximal portion and a distal proximal portion are configured to assist in separating teeth adjacent to the tooth receiving the dental restoration.
