A spinal implant device is provided comprising a body structure with a central cavity and a movable lid configured to cover the central cavity. The movable lid is configured to be opened to pack a material in the central cavity. The movable lid can be connected to the body structure with a moveable joint. The spinal implant device can include a compressible feature. A method for treating the spine is provided comprising opening a movable lid of a spinal implant device, packing a material in a central cavity of a spinal implant device, closing the movable lid, and inserting the spinal implant device between vertebrae.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: pivoting a lid of a spinal implant device, the spinal implant device comprising a distal end, a proximal end, two opposing side walls extending between the distal end and the proximal end, an upper wall configured to be positioned adjacent to a vertebral end plate of an upper vertebra, a lower wall configured to be positioned adjacent to a vertebral end plate of a lower vertebra, and a central cavity, wherein pivoting the lid relative to the upper wall provides access to the central cavity, wherein the lid extends the entire length of the spinal implant device from the distal end to the proximal end, wherein the lid and the upper wall together form an upper surface of the spinal implant device; packing the central cavity with a material; and pivoting the lid to cover the central cavity after the central cavity is packed. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising inserting the spinal implant device between the upper vertebra and the lower vertebra. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising inserting the spinal implant device with the distal end inserted first into an intervertebral space between the upper vertebra and the lower vertebra. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the distance between the upper wall and the lower wall is configured to restore the spacing between the upper vertebra and the lower vertebra. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising positioning the spinal implant device wherein the lid and the upper wall contacts the vertebral end plate of the upper vertebra and the lower wall contacts the vertebral end plate of the lower vertebra. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the material comprises an osteoinductive material. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the material comprises a graft material. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the lid and the upper wall contact the vertebral end plate of the upper vertebra. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the lid pivots relative to the upper wall in an arc. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the lid pivots relative to the upper wall between 90° and 240°. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the lid is coupled to the distal end by a hinge. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein pivoting the lid to cover the central cavity comprises closing the lid to be flush with the upper wall. 13. A method comprising: providing a spinal implant device comprising a distal end and a proximal end defining a length therebetween, two opposing side walls extending between the distal end and the proximal end, an upper surface and a lower surface defining a height therebetween, and a central cavity; pivoting a lid to provide access to the central cavity; packing the central cavity with a material; pivoting the lid to form at least a portion of an upper surface of spinal implant device; and inserting the spinal implant device between vertebrae with the upper surface positioned adjacent to a vertebral end plate of an upper vertebra and the lower surface positioned adjacent to a vertebral end plate of a lower vertebra, wherein the lid hovers above a ledge of the spinal implant device under normal anatomical loads. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the lid and an upper wall form the upper surface of the spinal implant device. 15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the lid contacts the ledge of the spinal implant device under greater than normal anatomical loads. 16. The method of claim 13 , wherein a portion of an upper wall of the spinal implant device is disposed between portions of the lid. 17. A method comprising: pivoting a lid of a spinal implant device to provide access to a central cavity of the spinal implant device, wherein the lid comprises an upper opening, wherein the spinal implant device further comprises a distal end, a proximal end, two opposing side walls extending between the distal end and the proximal end, an upper wall, and a lower wall comprising a lower opening, wherein the lid extends the entire width of the spinal implant device, wherein the lid and the upper wall together form an upper surface of the spinal implant device; packing the central cavity with a material; pivoting the lid to cover the central cavity before inserting the spinal implant device between adjacent vertebrae; and inserting the spinal implant device between the adjacent vertebrae, wherein the upper opening and the lower opening provide a vertical flow path between the adjacent vertebrae. 18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the lid is pivoted relative to the upper wall. 19. The method of claim 17 , wherein pivoting the lid to cover the central cavity comprises pivoting the lid to be flush with the upper wall.
