What is claimed is: 1. A powered surgical stapler comprising: a reload having a plurality of staples; a motor for providing rotational input for ejecting the plurality of staples; a transmission assembly having a distal end portion for coupling to the reload and a proximal end portion for coupling to the motor, the transmission assembly configured to convert the rotational input into axial translation output for ejecting the plurality of staples; a sensor coupled to the transmission assembly and configured to measure force imparted on the transmission assembly; and a controller configured to determine whether the plurality of staples is present in the reload based on the measured force. 2. The powered surgical stapler according to claim 1 , wherein the reload includes a driver for ejecting the plurality of staples. 3. The powered surgical stapler according to claim 2 , wherein the transmission assembly moves the driver in a longitudinal direction to eject the plurality of staples. 4. The powered surgical stapler according to claim 3 , wherein the controller controls the motor to move the driver from a first position to a second position to eject the plurality of staples. 5. The powered surgical stapler according to claim 4 , wherein the controller controls the motor to move the driver from the second position to a third position to eject the plurality of staples. 6. The powered surgical stapler according to claim 5 , wherein the controller compares the measured force to a minimum stapling force and a maximum stapling force during movement of the driver. 7. The powered surgical stapler according to claim 6 , wherein the controller is configured to determine presence of the plurality of staples based on the measured force being below the minimum stapling force. 8. The powered surgical stapler according to claim 6 , wherein the controller is configured to determine whether ejection of the plurality of staples is successful based on the driver reaching the third position and the measured force being between the minimum stapling force and the maximum stapling force. 9. The powered surgical stapler according to claim 8 , wherein the controller is configured to output an indication that the ejection of the plurality of staples is successful. 10. A method for operating a powered surgical stapler, the method comprising: activating a motor for providing rotational input, the motor coupled to a proximal end portion of a transmission assembly having a distal end portion coupled to a reload having a plurality of staples, the transmission assembly configured to convert the rotational input into axial translation output for ejecting the plurality of staples from the reload; measuring force imparted on the transmission assembly at a sensor during movement of the transmission assembly; and determining, at a controller, whether the plurality of staples is present in the reload based on the measured force. 11. The method according to claim 10 , wherein the reload includes a driver for ejecting the plurality of staples. 12. The method according to claim 11 , wherein the transmission assembly moves the driver in a longitudinal direction to eject the plurality of staples. 13. The method according to claim 12 , further comprising: controlling, via the controller, the motor to move the driver from a first position to a second position to contact the plurality of staples. 14. The method according to claim 13 , further comprising: controlling, via the controller, the motor to move the driver from the second position to a third position to eject the plurality of staples. 15. The method according to claim 14 , further comprising: comparing, at the controller, the measured force to a minimum stapling force and a maximum stapling force during movement of the driver. 16. The method according to claim 15 , wherein determining whether the plurality of staples is present in the reload is based on the measured force being below the minimum stapling force. 17. The method according to claim 15 , further comprising: determining whether ejection of the plurality of staples is successful based on the driver reaching the third position and the measured force being between the minimum stapling force and the maximum stapling force. 18. The method according to claim 17 , further comprising: outputting an indication on the powered surgical stapler that the ejection of the plurality of staples is successful.
