Method of generating selectable items providing post-viewing context actions starts with a processor receiving a media content item with first media overlay from first client device. Processor causes an active notification associated with the media content item to be displayed on a notification user interface by a second client device. Processor receives a selection of the active notification from the second client device and in response to receiving the selection of the active notification, causes the media content item to be displayed by the second client device. The processor, in response to the media content item being displayed by the second client device, causes the second client device to display the notification user interface comprising an inactive notification and a first selectable item that is associated with the first media overlay. Other embodiments are described herein.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: causing, by a processor, a media content item including a first media overlay to be displayed by a client device, wherein the first media overlay includes a first selectable context item that is selectable while the media content item is being displayed by the client device; and in response to the media content item being displayed by the client device, causing the client device to display a notification user interface comprising a first selectable item that is associated with the first media overlay, wherein the first selectable item provides access to the first selectable context item post-viewing the media content item. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the processor causes the client device to display the notification user interface comprising the first selectable item for a predetermined period of time. 3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising: in response to the predetermined period of time having expired, causing the client device to display the notification user interface without the first selectable item. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the predetermined period of time is established by an ephemeral timer and a timestamp associated with the media content item. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: in response to the media content item being displayed by the client device, causing the client device to display the notification user interface comprising a plurality of cells associated with a plurality of users on a messaging system, wherein a first cell in the plurality of cells is associated with a first user, wherein the first user being a sender of the media content item, wherein the first cell comprises the first selectable item. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the media content item is being received in an electronic communication session between a first user and a second user, wherein the second user is a recipient of the media content item and is associated with the client device. 7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising: in response to the media content item being displayed by the client device, causing the client device to display the notification user interface comprising the first selectable item below an inactive notification, wherein the notification user interface is an electronic communication session interface. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the media content item comprises the first media overlay and a second media overlay, wherein the second media overlay includes a second selectable context item that is selectable while the media content item is being displayed by the client device. 9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: in response to the media content item being displayed by the client device, causing the client device to display the notification user interface comprising the first selectable item and a second selectable item that is associated with the second media overlay, wherein the second selectable item provides access to the second selectable context item post-viewing the media content item. 10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first selectable context item and the second selectable context item are associated with a location, a user identification of a user in a messaging system, a group communication session, a group in the messaging system, a video game within the messaging system, a link to a feature of the messaging system, or an external link to a third-party application or to an external website. 11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising: when the notification user interface comprising the first selectable item is displayed, receiving a selection of the first selectable item from the client device. 12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: when the first selectable context item is associated with the location, in response to the selection of the first selectable item is received, causing the client device to display the location on a map display or information on the location. 13. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: when the first selectable context item is associated with the user identification of the user in the messaging system, in response to the selection of the first selectable item is received, causing the client device to display an interface associated with the user or adding the user to a social graph associated with a user of the client device. 14. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: when the first selectable context item is associated with the group communication session, in response to the selection of the first selectable item is received, adding a user of the client device to the group communication session. 15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: when the first selectable context item is associated with the group in the messaging system, in response to the selection of the first selectable item is received, adding a user of the client device to the group. 16. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: when the first selectable context item is associated with the video game within the messaging system, in response to the selection of the first selectable item is received, causing the video game to be activated on the client device. 17. The method of claim 10 , further comprising: when the first selectable context item is associated with the external link to the third-party application, in response to the selection of the first selectable item is received, causing the external link to be activated on the client device, and causing the third-party application to be displayed by the client device. 18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the media content item comprises an image, a video, text, or audio. 19. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first media overlay is an image, a text, a link, or an animation. 20. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions, when executed by a processor, causes the processor to perform operations comprising: causing a media content item including a first media overlay to be displayed by a client device, wherein the first media overlay includes a selectable context item that is selectable while the media content item is being displayed by the client device; and in response to the media content item being displayed by the client device, causing the client device to display a notification user interface comprising a first selectable item that is associated with the first media overlay, wherein the first selectable item provides access to the selectable context item post-viewing the media content item. 21. A system comprising: a processor; and a memory having instructions stored thereon, when executed by the processor, causes the system to perform operations comprising: causing a media content item including a first media overlay to be displayed by a client device, wherein the first media overlay includes a selectable context item that is selectable while the media content item is being displayed by the client device; and in response to the media content item being displayed by the client device, causing the client device to display a notification user interface comprising a first selectable item that is associated with the first media overlay, wherein the first selectable item provides access to the selectable context item post-viewing the media content item.
