Opening claim text (preview).
The invention claimed is: 1. An apparatus for the catalytic treatment of gas comprising: i. a casing having a gas inlet and a gas outlet; and ii. a ceramic honeycomb monolith having an inlet end surface at an inlet end thereof, and an outlet end surface at an outlet end thereof, and a plurality of channels through which gas can flow, wherein the channels extend from the inlet surface to the outlet surface, and a metallic coating within a trench manufactured by stereolithography or three-dimensional screen printing, wherein the coated trench forms a metallic track, wherein the metallic coating contains at least one metal, metal alloy, or an inorganic oxide selected from titania, zirconia, and zeolite, and wherein the metallic coating is hosted on the ceramic honeycomb monolith disposed within the casing. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus is suitable for catalyzing the conversion of one or more of the components of the gas. 3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the conversion involves reduction. 4. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the conversion involves oxidation. 5. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the metallic coating contains an inorganic oxide selected from titania, zirconia, and zeolite. 6. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the metallic coating contains at least one metal or metal alloy. 7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the metal or metal alloy is one of silver, gold, platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, iron, chromium, titanium, an alloy of one or more thereof, or nichrome. 8. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the metal is iron, chromium, titanium, an alloy of one or more thereof, or nichrome. 9. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the metal is iron or iron alloy. 10. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the metal is chromium or chromium alloy. 11. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the metal is titanium or titanium alloy. 12. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the metal is silver, silver oxide, or silver alloy. 13. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the metal is gold or gold alloy. 14. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the metallic coating comprises metal on the inlet end surface of the monolith. 15. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the metallic coating comprises metal on the outlet end surface of the monolith. 16. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the substrate has a tubular shape. 17. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the substrate has a cylindrical shape.
