Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method of setup a protection mechanism for scheduled transmissions to multiple stations is introduced. Through transmitting a control frame addressing to multiple stations for immediate simultaneous responses, the transmitter would know the stations that are ready for receiving the scheduled data frames and schedule the packet for those stations. Combining the transmission of the control frame with the power saving mechanism would allow triggering a group of power saving stations to wake up at same for receiving the control frame and scheduled user data frames. A new mechanism of simultaneous group responses to the control frame with orthogonal identifier information for individual station is provided to uniquely identify the responding stations.

What is claimed is: 1. A wireless communication method, comprising: receiving, by a wireless station from an access point, a request message about usage of multiple lower bandwidth channels, wherein the wireless station is configured to perform transmissions using one or more of the multiple lower bandwidth channels included in a broadband wireless channel, wherein each of the multiple lower bandwidth channels has a bandwidth that is lower than that of the broadband wireless channel; and transmitting, by the wireless station, a response message that includes a channel usage indication (CUI) related bitmap that indicates a channel occupancy condition of each channel of the multiple lower bandwidth channels. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the CUI related bitmap includes multiple bits that are respectively mapped to channel occupancy conditions of the multiple lower bandwidth channels, wherein a binary value of each of the multiple bits indicates channel availability for the channel occupancy condition. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the CUI related bitmap comprises 8-bits. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the multiple lower bandwidth channels is a 20 MHz channel or a 40 MHz channel. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the broadband wireless channel has a bandwidth of 40 MHz, 80 MHz, or 160 MHz. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request message includes a frame control field and a duration field. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request message includes a receiving address (RA) field that indicates an address associated with the wireless station, and a transmitting address (TA) field that indicates an identity of the access point. 8. A wireless communication method, comprising: transmitting, by an access point to a wireless station, a request message about usage of multiple lower bandwidth channels, wherein the access point is configured to perform receptions using one or more of the multiple lower bandwidth channels included in a broadband wireless channel, wherein each of the multiple lower bandwidth channels has a bandwidth that is lower than that of the broadband wireless channel; and receiving, by the access point, a response message that includes a channel usage indication (CUI) related bitmap that indicates a channel occupancy condition of each channel of the multiple lower bandwidth channels. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the CUI related bitmap includes multiple bits that are respectively mapped to channel occupancy conditions of the multiple lower bandwidth channels, wherein a binary value of each of the multiple bits indicates channel availability for the channel occupancy condition. 10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the CUI related bitmap comprises 8-bits. 11. The method of claim 8 , wherein each of the multiple lower bandwidth channels is a 20 MHz channel or a 40 MHz channel. 12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the broadband wireless channel has a bandwidth of 40 MHz, 80 MHz, or 160 MHz. 13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the request message includes a frame control field and a duration field. 14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the request message includes a receiving address (RA) field that indicates an address associated with the wireless station, and a transmitting address (TA) field that indicates an identity of the access point. 15. A wireless communication apparatus comprising a memory and a processor, the memory includes instructions that upon execution by the processor causes the wireless communication apparatus to: receive, by a wireless station from an access point, a request message about usage of multiple lower bandwidth channels, wherein the wireless station is configured to perform transmissions using one or more of the multiple lower bandwidth channels included in a broadband wireless channel, wherein each of the multiple lower bandwidth channels has a bandwidth that is lower than that of the broadband wireless channel; and transmit, by the wireless station, a response message that includes a channel usage indication (CUI) related bitmap that indicates a channel occupancy condition of each channel of the multiple lower bandwidth channels. 16. The wireless communication apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the CUI related bitmap includes multiple bits that are respectively mapped to channel occupancy conditions of the multiple lower bandwidth channels, wherein a binary value of each of the multiple bits indicates channel availability for the channel occupancy condition. 17. The wireless communication apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the CUI related bitmap comprises 8-bits. 18. A wireless communication apparatus comprising a memory and a processor, the memory includes instructions that upon execution by the processor causes the wireless communication apparatus to: transmit, by an access point to a wireless station, a request message about usage of multiple lower bandwidth channels, wherein the access point is configured to perform receptions using one or more of the multiple lower bandwidth channels included in a broadband wireless channel, wherein each of the multiple lower bandwidth channels has a bandwidth that is lower than that of the broadband wireless channel; and receive, by the access point, a response message that includes a channel usage indication (CUI) related bitmap that indicates a channel occupancy condition of each channel of the multiple lower bandwidth channels. 19. The wireless communication apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the CUI related bitmap includes multiple bits that are respectively mapped to channel occupancy conditions of the multiple lower bandwidth channels, wherein a binary value of each of the multiple bits indicates channel availability for the channel occupancy condition. 20. The wireless communication apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the CUI related bitmap comprises 8-bits.
