Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A seat positioning system includes a base frame having a pair of forward slots and a pair of rear slots, and a seat frame having a front end and a back end. The seat frame is coupled to the base frame and movable relative to the base frame. A first pair of linkages is slideably coupled to the pair of forward slots and connects the frames. A first pair of locking devices has a locked configuration adapted to prevent the first pair of linkages from sliding relative to the pair of forward slots and an unlocked configuration adapted to allow the first pair of linkages to slide relative to the pair of forward slots. A second pair of linkages slideably is coupled to the pair of rear slots and connects the frames. An actuator is pivotally connected to both the seat frame and the base frame and is configured to extend and contract to move the seat frame relative to the base frame.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A seat positioning system comprising: a first frame; a second frame; a first linkage slidably coupled to the first frame; a first lock having a first unlocked configuration in which the first linkage is free to slide relative to the first frame and a first locked configuration in which the first linkage is prevented from sliding relative to the first frame; an actuator configured to transition between an extended state and a retracted state to move the first frame relative to the second frame; a second linkage slidably coupled to the first frame; and a second lock having a second unlocked configuration in which the second linkage is free to slide relative to the first frame and a second locked configuration in which the second linkage is prevented from sliding relative to the first frame, wherein the first linkage is coupled to the second frame, the second linkage is coupled to the second frame, and the second frame is configured to slide in a forward-backward direction relative to the first frame when the first lock is in the first unlocked configuration and the second lock is in the second unlocked configuration, and wherein the forward-backward direction includes at least one of: i) a linear direction; ii) a substantially horizontal direction; and iii) a combination thereof. 2. A seat positioning system comprising: a first frame; a second frame; a first linkage slidably coupled to the first frame; a first lock having a first unlocked configuration in which the first linkage is free to slide relative to the first frame and a first locked configuration in which the first linkage is prevented from sliding relative to the first frame; an actuator configured to transition between an extended state and a retracted state to move the first frame relative to the second frame; a second linkage slidably coupled to the first frame; and a second lock having a second unlocked configuration in which the second linkage is free to slide relative to the first frame and a second locked configuration in which the second linkage is prevented from sliding relative to the first frame, wherein the first linkage is coupled to the second frame, the second linkage is coupled to the second frame, and the second frame is configured to tilt relative to the first frame such that a front end of the second frame is raised relative to a rear end of the second frame when the first lock is in the first locked configuration and the second lock is in the second unlocked configuration. 3. The seat positioning system of claim 2 , wherein the linear actuator is configured to cause the first linkage to slide relative to the first frame when the first lock is in the first unlocked configuration. 4. The scat positioning system of claim 2 , wherein the linear actuator includes a first end pivotally coupled to the first frame and a second end pivotally coupled to the second frame. 5. The seat positioning system of claim 2 , wherein the first linkage is coupled to the second frame, the second linkage is coupled to the second frame, and the second frame is configured to slide in a forward-backward direction relative to the first frame when the first lock is in the first unlocked configuration and the second lock is in the second unlocked configuration. 6. The seat positioning system of claim 2 , wherein the first lock comprises a first catch and a first pin, the first catch engages the first pin in the first locked configuration and disengages the first pin in the first unlocked configuration. 7. The seat positioning system of claim 6 , wherein the catch is configured to pivot in a first direction toward the locked configuration and in a second direction toward the unlocked configuration. 8. The seat positioning system of claim 6 , wherein the catch includes a notch configured to receive the first pin when the first lock is in the locked configuration. 9. The seat positioning system of claim 2 , wherein the actuator is a linear actuator comprising a telescoping body. 10. The seat positioning system of claim 2 , wherein the seat positioning system comprises a single actuator configured to move the second frame relative to the first frame. 11. The seat positioning system of claim 2 , wherein the actuator is configured to move the second frame while a user occupies a seat coupled to the second frame. 12. The seat positioning system of claim 2 , wherein the first linkage further comprises: a first member slideably coupled to the first frame; and a second member having a first end pivotably coupled to the first member and a second end pivotably coupled to the second frame. 13. The seat positioning system of claim 12 , wherein the first member includes a pin received within and configured to slide relative to the first frame when the first lock is in the first unlocked configuration. 14. The seat positioning system of claim 12 , wherein the second linkage further comprises: a first member slideably coupled to the first frame; and a second member having a first end pivotably coupled to the first member and a second end pivotably coupled to the second frame. 15. The seat positioning system of claim 14 , wherein the first member includes a pin received within and configured to slide relative to the first frame when the second lock is in the unlocked configuration. 16. The seat positioning system of claim 2 , wherein the first linkage is coupled to the second frame, the second linkage is coupled to the second frame, and the second frame is configured to tilt relative to the first frame such that a front end of the second frame is lower relative to a rear end of the second frame when the first lock is in the first unlocked configuration and the second lock is in the second locked configuration. 17. A seat positioning system comprising: a first frame; a second frame; a first linkage slidably coupled to the first frame; a first lock having a first unlocked configuration in which the first linkage is free to slide relative to the first frame and a first locked configuration in which the first linkage is prevented from sliding relative to the first frame; an actuator configured to transition between an extended state and a retracted state to move the first frame relative to the second frame; a second linkage slidably coupled to the first frame; and a second lock having a second unlocked configuration in which the second linkage is free to slide relative to the first frame and a second locked configuration in which the second linkage is prevented from sliding relative to the first frame, wherein the first linkage is coupled to the second frame, the second linkage is coupled to the second frame, and the second frame is configured to tilt relative to the first frame such that a rear end of the second frame is raised relative to a front end of the second frame when the first lock is in the first unlocked configuration and the second lock in the second locked configuration. 18.
