Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Some aspects of the present disclosure introduce a new downlink (DL) bandwidth part (BWP) and a new uplink (UL) BWP for communication in the RRC_INACTIVE state. In addition, aspects of the disclosure also provide for configuring generic parameters of the BWP, which include, but not limited to, frequency location, bandwidth, subcarrier spacing (SCS), and cyclic prefix (CP). Some aspects of the present disclosure may support a reinterpretation of generic parameters of a BWP, for example which may be configured for the RRC_CONNECTED state, to be used in the RRC_INACTIVE state. Some aspects of the present disclosure are directed to implicit DL BWP switching in the RRC_INACTIVE state where no BWP identifier (ID) indication is needed as part of the switching mechanism.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: receiving, by a user equipment (UE) in a RRC_CONNECTED state, a control message that releases the UE from the RRC_CONNECTED state and comprises first configuration information for an uplink (UL) bandwidth part (BWP) for UL data communications in a RRC_INACTIVE state and second configuration information for a downlink (DL) BWP for DL data communications in the RRC_INACTIVE state; transitioning, by the UE in the RRC_CONNECTED state, to the RRC_INACTIVE state; performing, by the UE in the RRC_INACTIVE state, the UL data communications using the UL BWP; and performing, by the UE in the RRC_INACTIVE state, DL data communications using the DL BWP. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the configuration information comprises BWP parameters for the UL BWP. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the configuration information comprises a BWP identifier that identifies the UL BWP. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the UE in the RRC_INACTIVE state, downlink control information (DCI) comprising scheduling information for the UL data communications. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the configuration information further comprises a subcarrier spacing (SPC), a cyclic prefix (CP), a frequency location, and a bandwidth. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising prior to performing, by the UE in the RRC_INACTIVE state, the UL data communications using the UL BWP, switching, by the UE in the RRC_INACTIVE state, from control resource set 0 (CORESET 0) to the UL BWP. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the UL BWP is specific to the UE. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the DL BWP is specific to the UE. 9. A user equipment (UE) comprising: one or more processors; and a non-transitory memory storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors configure the UE to: receive in a RRC_CONNECTED state, a control message that releases the UE from the RRC_CONNECTED state and comprises configuration information for an uplink (UL) bandwidth part (BWP) for UL data communications in a RRC_INACTIVE state and second configuration information for a downlink (DL) BWP for DL data communications in the RRC_INACTIVE state; transition from the RRC_CONNECTED state to the RRC_INACTIVE state; perform, in the RRC_INACTIVE state, the UL data communications using the UL BWP; and perform in the RRC_INACTIVE state, DL data communications using the DL BWP. 10. The UE of claim 9 , wherein the configuration information comprises BWP parameters for the UL BWP. 11. The UE of claim 9 , wherein the configuration information comprises a BWP identifier that identifies the UL BWP. 12. The UE of claim 9 , wherein the non-transitory memory stores further instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors configure the UE to receive in the RRC_INACTIVE state, downlink control information (DCI) comprising scheduling information for the UL data communications. 13. The UE of claim 9 , wherein the configuration information further comprises a subcarrier spacing, a cyclic prefix (CP), a bandwidth and a frequency location. 14. The UE of claim 9 , wherein the non-transitory memory stores further instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors configure the UE to, prior to perform the UL data communications, switch, in the RRC_INACTIVE state, from control resource set 0 (CORESET 0) to the UL BWP configured based on the configuration information. 15. The UE of claim 9 , wherein the UL BWP is specific to the UE. 16. The UE of claim 9 , wherein the DL BWP is specific to the UE. 17. An apparatus comprising at least one processor coupled with a memory storing instructions, when the instruction executed by the apparatus, cause the apparatus perform a method, wherein the method comprises: transmitting to a user equipment (UE) in a RRC_CONNECTED state, a control message that releases the UE from the RRC_CONNECTED state and comprises first configuration information for an uplink (UL) bandwidth part (BWP) for UL data communications in a RRC INACTIVE state and second configuration information for a downlink (DL) BWP for DL data communications in the RRC INACTIVE state; performing with the UE, which has transitioned from the RRC CONNECTED to the RRC INACTIVE state, the UL data communications using the UL BWP; and performing with the UE, which is in the RRC INACTIVE state, DL data communications using the DL BWP. 18.
